      I Give Up!!!!!!!!!

I cannot lucid dream and it is driving me crazy! Besides doing the reality checks, dream journals, self-talk motivation, hypnosis, subliminal CD, Mugwort, Galantamine, B6, the confidence method, etc. nothing seems to work. I am so tired of the constant disapointments. This figures, whenever I get into something it never works out for me no matter how hard I try and how much hard work I put into it. This has been going on for months now and I so done.
Time is neither my friend nor my enemy, but my indifferent companion.

Well first never give up. Second relax. When you put that much stress on yourself to do something your countereacting your efforts. I was doing research on trying to enter a lucid from ganzfeld state (total darkness and entrainment files basically) I've been have lucids for quite sometime (14 years) and it took me a month of trying before I could reach it from that state and thats with experience. Take a break, breath in deep and get back on board when you ready. You'll get it, just relax.

      Cheers!

Hmmm, as per my previous response, have you bought a REM Dreamer yet? This is a crutch but it's a helpful tool in learning.

      Hey Zero,

I definitely understand the frustration (very few lucid dreamers have never experienced it) - so go ahead, let it out, pound that brick wall all you want. When you're done you'll likely realize that it will be hard to 'give up' on the will to lucid dream- specially after all the effort you put into it.

What you need to do now is take a break from it - an "effort vacation". You've been pounding so much information about techniques into your brain that it hasn't had the time to really process all of it. Now is the time to let it alone and give it all a chance to sink in.

It's sort of like you planted a ton of seeds in a small pot, dumped gallons of water on it, and are expecting the shit to grow! What you got at this point, though, is a swamp of seeds and mud. Gotta let it all settle now.

You'll be soooo freakin excited when it finally hits you one night - can't wait to read that post when it happens.

      It'll come to you, man

You are probably trying too hard, and psyching yourself out. In Laberge's Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming in a section called "Lucid Dreaming is Easier Than You May Think" he says:
Sometimes people develop mental blocks that effectively prevent them from intentionally inducing lucid dreams. Typically, they think of lucid dreaming as a very difficult state to achieve. Beliving this seems to make it so.
Thinking about LDs a lot is good, but getting flustered is a sign that you should probably take a few days to a week off, and put it out of your mind for a bit. Things will be easier when you return.

Never give up! Sometimes it can take longer than a few months to get your first lucid. I hear it takes some people years. But it is definatly worth the wait!

Plus, I belive you are over-doing it. Try to relax and take it one step at a time. It might not be good to try all those things at once, try them seperately for about two weeks each to see what works best for you.

i thought i was the same way, nothing seemed to be working. but a couple nights ago i got soooo close. now realize i CAN do it. and that confidence is an unstoppable force

if your that stressed by this, take a week off. just sleep and maybe it will happen by itself

      Hey there,

Like people here said, rather then give up, just take a break. Let yourself relax a bit. Take a week or two of normal sleep, do nothing. Enjoy your dreams as they for a little while. Lucid dreams are great, but normal dreams can be a lot ot fun too! Focus on remembering and writing down your nightly adventures for a while.

There is such a thing as trying too hard. And it sounds like you're there. When it stops being fun, enjoyable, and interesting, and it starts feeling frustrating, like a chore, like something you 'have to do', that's the point where its usually best to take a step back, take a deep breath, relax a bit.

Yes, as the others have said, take a back and just relax for a bit. Try not to force lucidity too much. In my experience, beginners have found that they finally lucid dream after calming down the efforts a little. Don't quit, just relax.

      2 things to say here:

      1. Calm down, as has been said. Stop trying to LD for a week or so. Don't do RCs, don't think about it too much. After a week or two, start with RECALL. Recall is more important at the first stage than anything. Simply keep a DJ and get your recall up. No sense in having LDs you don't remember.

      2. Don't think you're alone. It took me over a month to be able to recall even fragments every night. After that, I had a sudden massive drop in recall and had to train it up for another 2 weeks or so. I've had two LDs so far, and am currently going through a dryspell of about 2 months or so. Some people find LDing easier or harder than others, but anyone could do it with the right work ethic.

The key element of this? Don't give up. The most important part of success in any oneironaught's career is devotion and patience.

And pj, that is a frakking fantastic quote.
"Of course it is all happening inside your head...but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?"

I've had nothing for over a month now since the end of june. I relaxed more and i just had an LD the other night.

Relax a bit more your convincing yourself LD is far off and you'll never get there. So you wont.

Also, consider the possibility that you've already been lucid, but forgot to recall it! In fact, it is more than likely, as we all dream every 90min of sleep! If you've already done it; you can do it again... I promise.

Everyone in this thread has the right idea. I find that if you try too hard, you're that much more likely to fail. Go a while without trying to LD. After a good break, ease back into it. When I first started learning, I was highly frustrated that I couldn't LD. I tried everything. I eventually decided to give it a rest. When I did, I just randomly had the most vivid DILD I have ever had to this day.

Don't over-think it, I promise you are capable of this.

first off, don't let it stress you out, maybe your trying to hard. just relax a bit, go to bed a little earlier, just don't quit.

If you give up than you have nearly no hope for a lucid dream, but when you try your chances of becoming lucid increase.

Yep, yep, yep. I agree with the Chinese. DO NOT GIVE UP!!! <--- yes, I'm aware that I'm shouting. KEEP TRYING. And right, don't stress it. The stress will ruin your control. Just expect it to happen.

none of that stuff ever worked for me... well I guess it did, but not that well, it gave me about 2 lucids and that's it. Maybe you should try DEILD. It's the easiest WILD tech (for me at least) and it's more reliable than DILD because all you need to know to do is not move or open your eyes when you wake up. (which is easy for some people, but hard for others) I dont know what you've tried, but I just think that's a good technique whether your just starting lding or not. just a suggestion tho. or maybe just do what imran said, maybe you just need a break.

I don't see the point of giving up. You're going to dream every night for the rest of your life so you might as well keep at it.

Thats the number one problem most people have.
      It totally decreases dream recall.

I must say that i know exactly how you feel, but at the end of the day its not as if its never going to happen, if you stay calm and collective about the whole situation you will get far with lucid dreaming, giving up will only make you feel worse about it, keep at it, the reward you get from the experience makes you stronger an more able to deal with it in future! Best of luck to you though, and keep on trying, stick with one thing and keep at what your best at
