      How it started for me...

When I was a kid I used to suffer from really bad nightmares which left me awake and scared sh*tless. I found that if I didn't leave a decent interval before falling asleep again, I would rejoin the 'mare where I left it. I discovered after a while that I could wake myself up by closing my eyes in the dream and kind of 'sucking' myself back out into consciousness. Therefore, I had to know in the first place that I was dreaming. After this realisation, I was able to control the dreams as I wished. Great fun! I live almost a double life....

Most of my dreams are LD's although I do find that I do not feel as rested in the morning as when I sleep 'dreamlessly'.

I have talked to people about this and mainly get met with blank stares, so it's been good to find this site. I must admit I find it odd to hear that some of you guys consciously have to try to LD, it all seems so natural to me, I don't even think about it.
If you can keep your head when those around are losing theirs, you probably haven't got the faintest idea of what's going on.

      no fair! *sulks*

i have one friend who is like that, but most people just think i'm wierd when i talk about lucid dreaming. i never have thought i was a freak like some people, i knew it was just some thing people can learn to do like meditation but most people don't because they are too caught up in thier little lives to do anything but breathe and go through life like a zombie. i truely believe us lucid dreamers are much more open to all our senses, we actually LIVE. any one know what i;m saying?

      Kind of.

For me LDing can sometimes be annoying as I feel that I haven't really slept at all and end up dog-tired the next day. I have found that after several nights of LD's, I will sleep seemingly without dreaming for a few nights until my mind has rested enough to start another bout.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. What wasted potential millions of people have... I believe lucid dreaming utilizes a normaly-dorment-part of our brain. I also believe we're only scratching the surface.

It was like that for me too, but I never thougt that it was uncommon. It was neat to see what happend in the dream, like watching a wierd movie. Never talked too anyone about it, untill this spring when I realized that I did'nt become aware anylonger, so I talked with a friend about it but I got the same reaction as you.

Havent thougt more since then, untill I read in a computer forum about this site. Been reading in this forum now and realise that I miss being able to fly and watch worst homvideos etc.

I'm so glad I found this site! Now I know I'm not crazy!
Before now I had never known that there was a name for being able to control your dreams and everyone I'd mentioned it to would look at me like I was nuts.

I'm not able to achieve LD everynight but hopefully from reading these posts I can find a way to get better at it. It seems from what I've read everyone first experiences Lucid Dreaming in different ways. For me it started with reoccuring dreams. Most of the time it consisted of being chased by a maniac or something out of a bad horror flick. The more times I had the same dream after awhile I'd notice at some point I'd been through it before and choose a differnet path. Finally when I'd realize at the beginning what was going on I never had that dream again.

When I started doing it more usually as soon as I figured out I was dreaming it would end right away so it took some time to prolong it. Now that I'm able to drag it out it's just a matter of getting a better at controlling things. But....I'm still working on it.

I've been doing it since I can remember, but it wasn't brought on by nightmares. I slept walked, too. Is there a connection? Anyone know?

      Pauline Welcome!

I have been LD'ing since i can remember as well but only realised it was special a few years ago, I had a few nightmares here and there I sleptwalked once at my cousins house never happened again though, I think I talk in my sleep at times.

Sleepwalking is the exact oposite of sleep paralysis, sleepwalking you are in the dreaming and the connection to your body is still active, so you are somewhat aware of your surroundings and can move about, sleep paralysis is when you wake up and that connection is still severed and you cant move!
