Last week Friday, I attempted a WILD. I was lying in bed with my sleepmask and earplugs on, waiting for SP to come, not moving a muscle. SP arrived in about 30min, and yet like you all, I saw nothing. I never have visual HI, EVER, so after about 5 more minutes I concluded that I wasn't going to be dreaming this WILD. Funny thing, though; I forgot that I was wearing a sleepmask! So, I opened my eyes expecting to see my room. Much to my surprise, I was sitting at my computer desk! It was VERY dark, but details were discernable easily. I knew I was dreaming at that point; opening my "eyes" seemed to create the dream imagery!
Unfortunately, a dream scene existing is NOT a sign that you can move yet! I tried to do so, and broke the dream scene and went right back into SP, and then woke up...
So, I think the trick is entering SP itself. It seems many of you have done so already! That's great! Now, I honestly believe that once you've hit that point, you ARE dreaming. I'm under the opinion that we dream in almost ALL stages of sleep, but that in REM it's just more vivid and easier to recall. So, that would mean that in SP, you're dreaming a very dull and boring dream, but dreaming nonetheless, but your subconscious doesn't recognize it as such. It still thinks you're awake!
I think by opening my eyes without realizing I had a sleepmask on, I tricked my subconscious into REALLY truly believe I was asleep, as I still saw blackness when I opened my eyes.
And that's the whole problem, I believe. EVEN when in SP, there's still that hint of "I'm still awake" to the subconscious, as Abra said. So, you have to REALLY believe you're asleep. I'm still trying to find out exactly HOW to do this still myself, but I'm convinced that this is the secret, and that entering SP is really the hard part.
