      Lucidity last night!

Last night I tried MILD for the first time as I've not really been able to visualise dreamscenes with WILD.

My alarm went off at 2:30am and had nothing to write down so I went back to sleep.

At 4am I also had nothing to write down but stayed up for 30 minutes to attempt WILD again. I must have fell asleep but when my alarm went off at 6am, I was awoken from the middle/end of a dream. I noted down a few keywords (which I've managed to translate into a proper log for once) and headed straight back to where I was. I did imagine becoming lucid a few times and what I would do. When I fell asleep, I was in a different dream... well actually it could very well have been the same dream but with a small time lapse and change in scenery.

I was still being chased (the end of my first dream was about to end up in a chase), but along a futuristic looking highway type scene. As I headed into a fire escape and started running down the stairwell in the structure, I randomly did a reality check. I started poking my index finger into my palm... nothing. I reached up and pinched my nose. I could still breathe! It was such a strange experience. For the first time ever I became lucid! I stopped running and headed back up the stairwell to face the two people chasing me. They just stared back and as I closed my eyes to try and change the scene, I woke up (for real).

I must have been lucid for all of 4 seconds but a success nonetheless! A big step forward for me anyway!

I did try again with the same method but after dreaming about waking up at work after an afternoon nap, and having trouble getting back to sleep, I didn't realise I was dreaming and felt I had been sidetracked in my thoughts.

If you think you can't, you're right.

I think I just had such a long list of things to try in a LD that I wanted to switch scenes ASAP. Definately need to practice... everything I didn't really let the excitement get the better of me so I'm not sure why I woke up. I think the first thing I should have done was to try clearing things up and make the dream more vivid. Soon see what happens tonight

ouija, congratulations on your first taste of lucidity!

For those new to lucid dreaming, I advise that you don't try to set the lucid world on fire your first few dreams.. don't try to do too many tricks, summon people, etc. Simply go with the flow and take it all in. Get used to what being lucid FEELS like so you can ground yourself in your dreams.. that's when the tricks/stunts can happen.

Your first few dreams simply act like a tourist in a new place.. go sightseeing and take in all the different colors and sounds. You may try to increase your vividness by confidently declaring "increase lucidity" or "clarity now" but that would be the extent of control I would recommend for struggling dreamers.

I still have to remind myself the moment I become lucid to get "grounded" in my dream (i.e., make it as lucid as it could be) instead of immediately racing to do something before I lose lucidity.

One of the tricks I use to "ground" myself is to "touch" things. By touching.. I mean really "feeling" them. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc. (this also helps me remain in the dream longer).

Just remember that "the deeper the level of lucidity.. the better your lucid experience should be".
