Thread: A Little Experiment

Not sure if this has ever been posted before, but I've come up with that I think may be a great idea for recognizing false awakenings nearly 100% of the time.

It's a well known fact that when you go into a false awakening, the familiar features of your room appear as they would in reality. My idea is to tape a piece of paper somewhere that you will see when you wake up every day(I will put the paper on the wall next to my bed so it will be right in my face). On the piece of paper you would write something like "REALITY CHECK". This would eventually establish a routine of every time you wake, you perform your RC of choice.

Then when you enter a false awakening and see the paper you will do one of the following:

• Read the note clearly and perform an RC, resulting in an LD
• be so used to reading "REALITY CHECK" on the note that you find it odd that a bunch of garbled nonsense is on the note instead, resulting in an RC and subsequently an LD
• do an RC out of habit as you do every time you wake up, resulting in an LD

It seems to me that if you established this as a routine every time you woke up, you would inevitably be able to turn false awakenings in lucid dreams nearly 100% of the time. I'm going to experiment with this, and if anyone else feels like trying it out you are welcome to post your results here!

I think it's a great I idea i should =try it. But, (I'm not sure this is for anyone else) my false awakenings are never perfect. There always a few missing things. It's not just new things or unnoticable things either. If i'm in too much of a routine and I notice it TOO much, I sometimes don't see it in a FA.

Sounds good and could help alot of people get over false awakenings.

I think i have seen something like this posted before.
It's a good idea but there could be some problems..
First of all, as Meakel said, false awakenings aren't always perfect and the sign might not appear in your dream. In a dream we are on the whole less aware of our surroundings and so the fact that the sign is missing will go unnoticed.
Also, if it's a false awakening in the middle of the night....isn't it going to be too dark to read the sign, especially if it's across the room from you on the wall?
Just a couple of things i thought of - but on the whole it sounds like a good plan

Thanks Chris, my post sounded a little flustered. Thanks for phrasing it a bit better.

The whole issue of it being too dark to read can be solved by having a dim light in the room, but it's not a problem for me because I get enough light to read it from the streetlights outside my windows.

As far as it not showing up in your dream at all, I'm not sure of any way to get around that.

I doubt that this technique would be 100% effective, but it would probably help to some extent. Have you had any luck trying it?
