      I am an Idiot

I tried WILD last night, stayed up for 20 minutes.

Laid down in bed, stayed still for 10-12 minutes, focusing on my breathing, progressing quite nicely. I did everything right in that time, ignoring itches and thoughts. I even started to go numb in my fingers and forearms. Then, I just rolled over for no reason. ON PURPOSE. What was I thinking?
This is the date of my first lucid: 3/6/2010
It took WAY TOO LONG - but was completely worth it.

By "no reason," do you mean you didn't intentionally do it? If so, then I doubt it'd affect your chances at WILD. Stuff your body does on its own (swallowing, hypnic jerks) don't hurt WILD chances.

I think it's because you built up an urge (whether you felt it or not) to roll over. And you got more and more uncomfortable (whether you felt it nor not) untill you had to roll over, but the energy focussed on doing just that, and so it happaned in about two seconds. Like when you let go of a balloon half way through blowing it up, it shoots up. My guess is that you did that but with your energy and you rolled over a little quickly.

Or think of this tourettes syndrome. Those people who have it have strong urges to swear or shout for so much, they feel uncomfortable. They have to swear/shout to release the tension like an orgasm, and they feel physically better and relaxed after doing it. And I think it's the same with wanting to roll over. You build up tension for so long, and puff. It all comes out in a second. Relaxing isn't it? (When you roll over ofcourse)

I've never really experienced automatically rolling over for no apparent reason. But I always have these tensions to roll over.

      Hope my advice helps.

Yeah, this happened to me. Haven't been successful wilding yet, but I was trying a little while ago, and when I was falling asleep, I just sorta spontaniously rolled over. I was like, DUH...what did I just do? and then gave up and went to sleep.

It can seem uncomfortable to stay in one position and when I give up on WILD and roll over on purpose it's such a releif. Thinking about nothing is EXTREMELY tiring for me and requires lots of concentration. All of my WILD attempts in history have gone your way, I've never acheived it. Do you have a genuine urge to roll over? That's probably the cause, and to me it means I can't do WILD. I don't know if trying every night would help, but I can't tell you that because I don't. I only try rarely, but I do this because it's hard enough for me to get to sleep. I went to bed at 9:30 and could only manage to get to sleep at 3:30... that's why some people can't WILD because it's hard enough to get to sleep in the first place!

It sounds like you're not tired enough at night. Try waking up a little earlier in the morning and exercising a bit before you go to sleep.

Lots of times when I fail at WILD it ends up acting as a WBTB.

You are an idiot. But don't fret, while falling asleep your brain is shutting parts of itself down for rest, so your IQ drops like a rock. Dream selves are idiots, oh I'm thinking of an experiment. Next time I'm lucid I'm going to do some calculus in my head and see if it takes me longer than it should.

I never understand why people think if they have to move during WILD then they've ruined it. To me, it is more stressful (and less conducive to WILDING and thus, lucidity), to sit there thinking "man, I want to move, I really want to move, argh, I just need to roll over, or scratch that itch, but if I do I'll mess up my WILD, argh".

What I do is, I lay down and get comfy, shut out the lights, put my sleep mask on, ect - but for the first ten or fifteen minutes, I give myself permission to move if I need to. I might need to scratch, or change position - I just do it. At some point I start getting those little muscle jerks which means I'm getting into stage 2 sleep... at this point, if I feel a little itch or desire to move, I ignore it and focus on WILDING...but, if it becomes an unbearable itch or I'm really uncomfortable on that side, then I will scratch or move, and then just keep trying to WILD. To me, that makes a lot more sense than trying to hold those moves in. Once I'm really sleepy and feeling those little muscle jerks it's easier to ignore a slight itch or need to move, so I usually do (unless it's unbearable), but like I said, in the first ten-fifteen mins, if I gotta move, I move
