      Lucid Dream?

I remember having a dream like about 4 months ago where I was in school. The teacher gave me a cartoony like unrealistic amount of homework; what I mean is that the teacher gave me like a 4ft stack of books/papers.

I remember that I stood up and said," I don't need to do this, I'm in a dream!"
After that I immediately woke up. I remember thinking to myself about how weird that was to know I was in a dream.

Back then I didn't know what lucid dreaming was, and I do realize that even though I said that, I didn't really feel like a controlled what I said, almost like that was planned in the dream.

Was that a lucid dream? If you simply are able to say "I'm in a dream" in your dream, would that be considered a lucid dream?

Yes, any time you realize that you're dreaming, it's a lucid dream. Unfortunately sometimes you wake up as soon as you become lucid, especially when you first start out or you don't know what lucid dreaming is.

That is the meaning of a lucid dream. If you're saying you're dreaming, then surely you know you're dreaming. You don't need to be able to control it for it to be lucid, just knowing it's a dream is lucidity.

There are diferent levels of lucidity, one of the lowest forms is just saying "this is a dream" then just keep going on with the dream. Also, you could have a crapy ld with really good control, you could also have a realy vivid lucid dream with no control.

      ^Probably

I would say it is a Lucid Dream. If you train a little, you will be able to stay in the dream, resulting in you cutting your teachers head off with a lightsabre.
