Well you don't have to, for me an rc just consists of realizing to check and not doing an actual physical check. If you stop and think for 2 seconds it is usually obvious if you are awake or dreaming. Most RCs make you look like a moron and I don't think they're necessary.

Everyone wants to do it always, it's very difficult to do that every time. Start looking for three or four a week.

the hardest bit about this technique is making it from an action into a habit. I've tried and failed at this idea. I find it nearly impossible to notice when I change surroundings EVERYtime.

The problem with this is that you would probably do an RC as a result of entering a different place and and you usually dont travel in dreams (you just seem to "be" there). Does that make sense? Anyway, it can't hurt

Everything makes sense once you stop thinking about it

DILD is where you just realize that you are dreaming after you are already in a dream. RC is a reality check, something that helps you distinguish the real world from the dream world. There is a list of all of the abbreviations in the tutorials section.

"Changing scenes" is a somewhat relative term. I try to do an RC whenever I enter or leave a building or vehicle. That happens at just about the right frequency along with my other cues.

I'm shooting for once, then moving up.
I got one in the hole. Now I need to have another.

As I see it, I should start having them more often. Then slowly work up to having them frequently.

This reminds me of the dream yoga. I think that dream yoga would be a better way to get the 100% lucid rate (don't know if anyone has actually achieved that yet). In my opinion random RC's dosen't really have any effect, only when you are suspicious that you are actually dreaming.

This has already been proposed as the "door-RC". It didn't work for anyone, since nobody could remember to do it. Great idea, but it won't work.

Lost count of how many lucid dreams I've had

But isn't that the point of RCing -to sudenly suspect you're dreaming?
Because that's what I do. When I RC, I ask myself if this is a dream, stop and look around. I tell myself that this could very well be a dream-if not a very boaring one!

Yes, but you can do it in more ways. You can RC at random, hoping randomly to do so in a dream, or you could just train yourself do do an RC everytime something wierd happens. From my viewpoint, the last one is the effective one. You just don't randomly do RC's in dreams (at least i don't).

I used to do RCs randomly and it worked (but only because I was more focused on LDing - I don't RC in my dreams), but I found that doing them every 15 minutes was too annoying. Now, I think I'm just going to do them when I find that something weird happens. This sounds like a good technique, but I don't think I could stick to it.

This is a good point. I supose both should work. I do both IRL. But weird stuff seldom happens to me, so I like to do it in doorways.

It's easy to make habits. Persitance is all you need. When I was younger, there was this one step on the stairs going to the basement at my house. We declared that step cursed. Now I have a habit of skipping that step. I haven't stepped on it in several years.
