A little trick I used to get lucid

Different people use different techniques to obtain lucidity. Some people take b6, some like to get caffinated off your head and so forth.

There is a way which i used only once and it got me lucid (100% success rate or what?! )

Wearing a nicotine patch (I wore two because I don't take things by halves) before you go to bed and sleep with it on.

The people who make them said you shouldn't and it can make you have nightmares - I also read somewhere that this is true and you will really likely have a nightmare.

When I did this I had a nightmare which was so scary and horrific and personal that I don't even want to share it - but let's put it this way, despite I knew it wasn't real it still tugged my emotions enough to make me cry and be really shakey all day - hence why I only tried it once.

WARNING: If you are NOT a smoker I wouldn't recommend trying this as, even though it is only in small quanities it is still suppling nicotine to your blood stream, try this method at your own risk and I will not be held responisble for anything this method might incur.

I will try it again tonight and will post here again tomorrow (it's 11:21pm here in England so most probably won't even read this til i've posted the results)

I really hope I don't get a nightmare as bad as I did last time, because even though I was in complete control over the dream the sheer scariness of the dream stopped me from thinking straight which ment I eventually lost consentrating on being lucid and I woke up

Nicotine is still a drug, even if it's a patch. Perhaps a scary movie would work, though. And not one of those gorey ones. Everyone knows the best scary movies are psychological in nature. Nightmare-induced-lucid-dream. Catchy. Perhaps by becoming lucid in the nightmare, you will learn to overcome it.

I tried a nicotine patch once. Although I wouldn't say I had "nightmares", my dreams were very tense with a lot more violent overtones than usual, and were generally unpleasant. On the other hand, they were also quite vivid. I never became lucid, though. All in all I was not impressed, but since I still have some patches laying around I will probably do it again eventually.

When I was giving up smoking I had a similar experience with nicotine gums. Those nicotine replacement therapies actually deliver more nicotine to your system than smoking does. Perhaps it's the added nicotine running around your system that induces these kinds of dreams.

yes, I find it's sometimes easier to get lucid during a nightmare

Tried it again last night. Got a Theatre A-level practical on Thursday (tomorrow) now. Gave me a nightmare of us doing it (felt so real it had surround sound, wind blowing in my hair the hills are alive at the sound of music real). When we were doing it I fell and as soon as I fell I became lucid but then I completely lost all focus and woke up.

I remember the dream very very well though

      'twas interesting

      worth a shot

Nicotine, huh? Well....I've just quit smoking about a month ago. Since I quit, I've had a higher frequency of dreams...

      Your method sounds intersting, though.

Oh yeah. How does caffiene help you induce dreams? Ususally when I'm all wired I have trouble falling asleep, and I get rather painful headaches. So, please, someone do me the favor of explaining such an enigma...

The simple answer to that is I dunno. It just does. I don't get particulary wired off caff unless i have a lot of it. I suppose it increases brain activity so that helps with dream recolation/lucidity.

      I dunno, I ain't no scientist

Ask one of the pros, they might know

Interesting. Is there any other medicine or whatever that is said to cause nightmares?
