Very close to LD, any pointers?

Lately I've been really close to getting LDs. Since I've been doing reality checks it's really helped. And I can easily recall me dreams. I for some reason don't notice things like how many fingers I have or the time on clocks but strange things like once I was firing a shotgun, but wondered where I was getting the shells, very odd things like that. But I'm still having trouble maintaining lucidity when I realize in lucid dreaming. It seems that once I realize I'm Lucid I start to wake up. Spinning seems to make it worse so is there any other helpful tips for staying lucid.

      Thanks guys,
      K

Do you immediately try to perform a goal in a lucid dream? Or do you take a minute to smell the roses.

To maintain lucidity, you must immerse the senses. Take a while to notice how much you hear, see, and feel once you become lucid. Remember what you were doing before you were lucid, and perhaps before you fell asleep.

Spinning is unreliable for me, but rubbing my hands together helps much more. Even looking at the hands will help.

Some great tips would be as follows:

      • Try to relax more.
      • Don't listen to people that go "YOU MUST DO THIS NOW" because it will ruin your relaxtion.
      • Believe more that you will dream, because these things indeed will help you.
      • As stated one or two entries up, don't follow a technique because nearly everyone does it.
      • Enjoy yourself, but don't get too excited. Honestly, the magic of this site will get you into lucidity.
      • Read more threads on this forum, the more you read, the better.

Sorry that was a bit random, but yeah, follow them and enjoy.

What I like to do is to carry on with my RC - i.e. If it was a nose-RC that got me lucid, I carry on my breathingwith my mouth closed. This serves as a constant reminder that I am dreaming, and it is very useful for me.

I must agree with Jdeadevil. Follow those pointers and you should be on your way in no time.

      Good Luck!

It seems you have a problem with getting overexcited. Don't get all "OMG I'm having a Lucid!!!" Just stay calm.

Here's a technique I use to help with that stuff: Once you find out you're dreaming, whisper "I'm dreaming" to yourself in your head. This will keep you lucid, but not awake. Try to do stuff you normally would think of in an LD. Keep reminding yourself of this. Constantly. Keep it up until you wake up.

      Hope this helps.

that's actually great advice. I think I'm going to use that next time I LD, because although my Lucids usually feel very realistic, I dont have much control. It's pretty much just like being awake, cause I can't do anything!

Lol, you're not alone on that one.
