Smile sleeping pill helped me regain lucidity lost since childhood

I used to LD all the time as an early teen - I could even dream link - restart dreams from where they left off from the night before. Back then I never tried doing much just walking round and such and flying though I did have sex at least once.

I lost my ability somewhere along the way and forgot I could even do it till 2006 when I tried a sleeping pill called nimetazepam. It causes me to have lucid dreams every time I take it. I have only ever tried one other kind of sleeping pill - Stilnox - but that had no effect on dreaming at all. Nimetazepam is only available in Asia though as it is banned in most western countries (abuse potential reasons or something). I don´t know if I am the only one who can LD when using this or not. Now I want to find a way to LD again without using drugs so I have come to this site seeking knowledge.

During childhood I first attained lucidity when having one of my recurring nightmares (I had 6 operations as a child from age 4-12yo - so I was severely tramatised so had very bad nightmares till I became lucid). Anyhow, in the dream I was once again being chased by the vampire and u know the feeling u just cant run fast enough to get away - I finally had a thought - ah f**k it I am tried of being chased let me die - long story short he caught up to me and bit me and I woke up unafraid and I never saw him again. After that I found I could lucid dream every night w/o interference from the undead.

gazza, a lot of our members learned about controlling their dreams to help deal with nightmares.

I've never heard of Nimetazepam (which isn't surprising as it's only available in Asia). I'm assuming that a prescription is required.. correct?

I would recommend checking out the Tutorial forums to see if any of the methods there could be made to fit/work for you.

      Welcome to Dreamviews, Gazza.

I've never heard about Nimetazepam either, but I'm curious. You could try posting about it in the Lucid Aids section. There are a lot of threads there about different chemical aids helping with lucidity.

I live in Taiwan - hospitals here will give you a prescription for it if you have sleep problems. But it is widely available on the black market if you want to skip the hospital visit (kinda like the Ritalin problem in the usa). It is mainly used here in Taiwan and in Japan. It is made by Sumitomo pharmaceuticals in Japan.

Even though I agree with Butler in the sense it should be listed here for education purposes, but I probably wouldn't go near it based of the fact it's only available in ASIA

Sleeping pills usually suppress REM which increases chances of lucid dreaming during your REM rebound.

Good point, Ninja. I was wondering if that could have something to do with it. I know when I take anything with a sleeping aid, I have a crazy long dream in the late morning.

Now, if only we could find a pill that could trick your body into REM Rebound.

You shouldn't be so quick to judge something as bad just because it is made in Asia. It is a Japanese product just like your Sony Walkman and Honda car. I know that in the States there has been some scares about Chinese made toys recently but China and Japan are totally different. Chinese WILL cut corners to make a buck but the Japanese aren´t like that. When you buy Japanese you buy quality. That being said the black market stuff is
usually made by the Mafia. If you get it from the doctor you get the real deal.

If you check out the wiki link you can see that it never made it to the west because in Asia it is widely abused and they wanted to stop it from ever becoming a problem over there.

I mean, not actually suppress your dreams, just trick your brain into thinking it did. Then we could have marathon REM periods back to back. Sounds pretty unhealthy.

nightmares are what made me lucid also. The only thing is, instead of continuing to have a lucid dream I learned to wake myself up instead. So getting scared could be considered a dream sign I used to have (or a nightmare sign) and so every time I got scared I would know that I was having a nightmare, and then close my eyes really tight and open them and I'd be awake. I really wish that I knew about lucid dreaming back then because I'd probably be able to do it now, and I don't even get nightmares anymore. Another dream sign I used to have was seeing a toilet, or going to the bathroom... because everytime I saw a toilet or started to pee in a dream I'd pee in my bed and wake up, so I taught myself to wake up every time I saw a toilet and sure enough I'd sprint to the bathroom to let it out. Haven't wet the bed since!

It's quite common that children dream differently before puberty. It may be related with brainwave activity, which also shows a pattern that is comparable to schizophrenic adults. From my personal experience I can affirm that. My extraordinary dreaming and perception phase stopped at the age of 14, was suppressed later by the frequent usage of Cannabis, alcohol, nicotine, coffeine and sleep deprivation and just a few years ago, I found a new access.

Good for you! I have a friend who is addicted to sleeping pills, so I avoid those things like the plague. You'll see that it is possible to lucid dream without the use of any drugs at all, although some people use vitamins and supplements. And you said it yourself that people abuse that drug, which is just another reason not to use it, if you don't need to.

And I'm always glad to hear another story about how lucid dreaming is therapeutic
