      I'd like to learn..

      ..To lucid dream by will.

Last night I had a lucid dream, which woke me up quite quickly after I realised I could control my dream.

I didn't even know this was possible, but looked it up on the internet and came across this site.

I really like the idea of it, so i'm going to try to keep a Dream Diary and spot common occurences in them, so I can trigger a lucid dream as much as possible

Couple of things i'd like to know though, what's SP, and LD? Is LD a lucid dream? Also, what's a WILD and DILD?

      Umm..

Sorry, just saying what i'm thinking, blurting out rubbish.. XD

Soo.. So far, i've heard there are different methods of trying to lucid dream, of these:

      • Counting from 100 to 0, then again. How does this help to induce a lucid dream?
      • Trying not to think at all? The same as above, how does this help?
      • Thinking of random things (day dreaming, in a way?) but remaining conscious enough to know you're awake (or about to be asleep)

So tonight, what do you think I should do?

      -Lay still?
-Remember i'm about to fall asleep, and try to concentrate on that
-Or think of random things, whilst remembering i'm about to fall asleep?

Hello and welcome to Dream Views,

It's great that your determined to master lucid dreaming, you can't go into it without disopline though, many people think it's just a fun side hobby they put occasional time into, it's great to look at it like that but in the end those who master it are usualy those who do not give up, and those who are very lucky .

Yes LD stands for Lucid dream.

Sp (Sleep-Paralysis), which is what we all go through eachnight, it's what makes you unable to move your physical body, so like you don't act out your dreams in the real world, you may find that you wake up occasionally and you cannot move, thats SP still active, it's valuable when it comes to the WILD technique.

A WILD (Wake-Induced-Lucid-Dream) is basicly any technique that involves going directly from a waking state into a dreaming state well maintaining a stream of conscious, types of methods include counting things, like your breathing mainly, and my personal favorite visualizing/tactile sensations, which I believe to be very effective once mastered.

A DILD (Dream-Induced-Lucid-Dream) is any technique which you regain conscious inside of the dream, for example by realising that the envirment is non-stable/defies the laws of physics in anyway. Usualy done by doing an RC (Reality Check) or by writting dreams down you learn to recognize them.

Counting down is a type of WILD technique, or counting up, it keeps your mind focused so you can maintain that stream of conscious inorder to WILD well still being a quite simple task that you can forget why your doing it and any other mental process and just mindlessly do it so you can fall asleep faster.

Thinking keeps you awake, at least organized flexable thinking will provent you from being able to physicaly go to sleep and enter a dream through the WILD technique.

Yeah day dreaming is a good way to put the visualizing that I discribed, keeps your mind focused well still staying passive, and day dreaming helps build/incourage your mind to form a dream.

Whatever you decide to do is up to you, do you like the DILD techniques or the WILD ones, for WILDing I'd always recommend visualizing which I've seen myself to work also start out with DEILDing which is a really awesome easy technique to see if your into that kind of thing (Dream-reEntry-Induced-Lucid-Dream) which is basicly when you wake up in the morning and imeadietly stay very still and try to keep your eyes shut if you use any WILD type procedure (I strongly recommend visualizing or specually tactile imagination) then you'll slip back into the dream pretty soon, for DILD I recommend WBTB (Wake-Back-To-Bed) which is when you wake up and stay but for anywhere from 15-30 min or longer and then go to sleep it tends to add awarness so you have a greater chance in any following dreams once you go to sleep normaly of realizing your dreaming, also gives you a great oppurtunity to write down your dreams because their still fresh in your mind.

      Yes, 2000th post lol , I love dv .

EDIT: aww psycology student beat me to it.

      My sadness was merely empathy.

Tonight when I go to sleep (after I get a reply ) shall I:

      1) Count from 100-1, and again and again, trying to keep my mind semi-active whilst able to fall asleep

      or

      2) Think of walking somewhere I know, and think about as many senses as possible whilst concentrating on knowing soon i'll be asleep

      or

      3) Repeat "shut up" whenever I think (I read this somewhere on the forums. XD)

      or

      4) Repeat saying/thinking "I will fall asleep, and wake up remembering what I dreamt"

      ?

      Beginners super simple technique:

When I started I found it easy to go right back into a dream that I just woke from. Just picture yourself in the location again and feeling all the site, sounds, and everything. Then try spinning around and rubbing hands while picturing yourself there. Visualize your self spinning around in that dream location. Usually you'll shoot right back in.

My wife was having trouble having lucids and she tried this, and had a lucid 2 nights in row.
