      Making REM Start Sooner?

      I read that somehow that is possible, but I don't know how. This would be a useful things for me to learn. Any tips?

      The sleep cycle is a little bit complicated and has various stages.
      REM increases during the later cycles. Near when you wake up
      remember that your body is entering a state that must allow for your real
      body to become virtually paralyzed
      so that you are not prone to sleep waking.

      To get there relax the body prior to drifting off to sleep and entering the early stages of light sleep.

      By using dream prolonging techniques like hand rubbing or focusing on an object in the dream while lucid is increasing REM. Doing it by 'artificial' ways is difficult and it could upset your sleep cycle.

      Galantimine boosts your ACh and taking it before you sleep will usually put you straight into REM. It’s not recommended that you do this though, because you will not get restful sleep. This is why it's used for the WBTB method.

      How long, how often, and how soon REMs occur in any particular sleep depends on the sleep circadian rhythm which is governed by your hypothalamus as well as other factors from diet to work to stress to life style and environment.

      You can "tweak" it around using various methods including taking supplements but you risk upsetting your body's natural clock , which can result in real physical illnesses.

      Whatever you decide to do, you should really study into it, know how it works, why it works and the associated risks vs benefits. Dont follow any advice nilly willy without checking it out properly first.

      Some work of Mark Soloms suggest that REM sleep and dreaming are not related.
      He worked with patients which had brain damage in the area responsible for the REM sleep. They did not get into the REM phase, but still had dreams.
