Same thing happened to me when I tried this technique...

Are you sure you're completely still? If I recall, I believe that your eyes must be still as well. They're probably the trickiest part, perhaps you should focus on something to keep them from wandering.

you should be more patient in your dreaming experiences(i like calling them that. even when u dont end up dreaming.) its not like staying still is THE secret technique that works everytime. you need to work at it, and work with these sensations as your body goes into sleep paralysis. think about deepening your level of relaxation while being a bystander to the sensations you experience as you fall asleep, and just letting nature work its magic sending you into the dream state.

when are you trying this technique? if it's before you go to bed I'm not sure if you'll get very good results. The best way to do this technique is to do it after you wake up in the night. You'll have to stay up for a certain amount of time so that you're not so tired that you will fall right back asleep without even doing the technique, but so that you're tired enough that you won't be awake for an hour before anything happens. It's different for everyone, so just try it for a while and figure out how long would be best for you to stay up.

yea lagunagirl is correct. if you havent ever completed a WILD, or if you arent really good at telling dream from reality and aren't that experienced, WILDing as you first go to sleep is nearly impossible. it ISNT, trust me, but WBTBing is much simpler to complete and gives you the same experience. if you can, when you wake up in the middle of the night, try not even opening your eyes or moving. this will send you into SP very quickly if you are succesful at not moving. then all you need to concentrate on is not letting your mind fall asleep. =]

Thanks 4 the advice. I'll try it tonight.
Sometimes, i'm awake for an hour and sometimes i can't seem to keep my mind awake for even a few minutes. How can i achieve a balance in this and keep my mind awake for the right amount of time?

Well in REM your eyes move a hell of a lot.
If anything I found the eye movement simulates the REM starting and helps get you there.
Just don't look at your eyelids. Look past them up about 30 degrees. Somehow i found that angle is a relaxing (non-awake position of our eyes).
I have often woken with this eye position. Now for example to illustrate my point....
Imaging you are on the beach looking straight at the sea just in front of you. This is like looking at your eye-lids.
Now....imagine looking to the horizon (where the sea meets the sky) and at the sky just above it.
This is what I mean...looking out and beyond. You will soon see past your eyelids and forget they are there.
Try it ...you will feel you transition sort of away from where you were. You can use any image that sends you to look far away.
      This is just mine.
      It does work.

what I do is the second I start to feel like I'm getting less groggy, I go back to sleep.

which in the middle of the night for me is about 30 seconds. In the morning when I actually have to wake up it seems like an hour or so. convenient, huh?
