      Well, I'll be...

I just woke up, and it looks like I finally did it. I had my first non-micro LD (through DILD). The lucidity and the dream itself didn't last, but I was lucid for maybe 30 seconds to a minute, which is far better than my previous insta-lucids. Having to face off with a velociraptor beforehand (killed through a willed-head-explosion ) was a fairly small price to pay.

I was going to summon my dream/spirit/ego/whatever guide, but I lost lucidity beforehand due to distraction, unfortunately. Better luck next time.

It was as everyone says; intensely vivid and almost but not quite real, just like waking life. For those of you who have yet to have their first LD, the effort is definitely worth it. Keep trying and you'll eventually get there. I had this one by thinking before going to sleep "I will wake up after my dream, remember my dream, and remember to write it down", and doing RCs in waking life on about an hourly basis.

One more rather curious thing: I did my two standard reality checks once I became lucid (the palm poke and the nose pinch), but both failed in the dream. What's up with that?

Congratulations on becoming lucid! I agree on it being worth the effort to pull it off, in fact, I'd say it's worth double the effort it takes.

As for the reality checks failing, that happened to me sometimes too. I find that when I don't really think about them that much as I do them, they're more likely to fail. But when I literally stop everything I'm doing, and focus on checking reality with whichever method that first pops into my head, There's no problems. To offset the chance that they fail, I do 4 reality checks each time. It doesn't even take 1 minute to do them all, and I'm always 100% sure of the outcome now.

congrats!! there's nothing quite like that lucid rush is there? about your rc's, did you look at your hands thouroughly? that always does it for me.
you just shot an unarmed man!
well he should've armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend.

I do remember that something about them looked strange when I did my palm-poke RC. Not extraordinary, but they didn't look like my real hands. My vision was a little wierd through the whole thing in any case, so it may have been that.

I was already lucid when I did my RCs, even if they failed I think the effectiveness is in questioning my state of mind.

I think mine out fully, I make sure it's not just an empty habit.

I do the palm poke and the nose pinch just because they're quick and relatively discreet. I don't want to hop around trying to fly and look like a psycho to everyone around me.

Yes it is! Congratulations and may your lucids only get better and longer.
