Too Afriad to WILD :(

I've accomplished a WILD before, but now I'm too afraid to even attempt it again. I've accomplished it waking after 5 hours of sleep, and entered SP directly from going to bed at night (around 12 PM when I normally sleep)

On certain nights, I have an extremely certain feeling that I can enter SP easily. I also know when I will not be able to enter SP... its because I'm not relaxed enough or too frustrated. On the nights I know SP is easy, I feel like I somewhat am about to enter SP (things like I can't feel my hands, or I start to hallucinate mildly). Once I get these feelings I get sorta nervous and repress them, causing me not to enter SP.

I'm most nervous / scared of SP because of all the bad experiences I hear about it... and some of the weird experiences I've had with hypnagogia. I just don't want to be scared of odd noises or images. People (on this forum) have told me time and time again that I shouldn't be afraid because nothing can harm you. I know nothing can harm me but I still am afraid... I say that to myself during pre-SP in bed... but I'm still all freaked out. I'm not afraid of being hurt... its just those images / sounds are creepy, and just invoke fear in me.

Does anyone have advice that can help me conquer my fear of what scary things I may see / hear? I need something that will calm me and make me feel fearless in a time of hypnogogia. I just want to be at peace when attempting /experiencing SP.

Well this fear is not uncommon, I once had it as well (before I realized I just couldn't WILD easily ). First you should try imagining other things to fill the gap, if your in contact with that hallucinegenic side of you, then it should be quite easy for you., you can use your tactile imagination to just walk right out of sp as fast as you can.

Also you should learn to not let dream imagery steer up emotion within you, if you see something scary like some zombie starts walking toward you, then try to instead of feeling scared react in a happy manner, the dream is only scary because your scared.

Quit, or get over it.

Do you get scared when you play video games? This is no different. It's not real. If you see something scary and unexpected, that means you're almost there.

So why don't you grow a pair.

What if its just scary images / sounds from hypnogogia? Just hearing / looking at them makes me feel creeped, and I know I can't make it go away mainly because its during hypnogogia, and you can't control hypnogogia. Do I just ignore it, tell myself its just my mind, or try to acknoledge it in a humorous fashion?

If you aren't going to help, please do not post. Certainly you have never experienced anything close to SP before.

And you say this is no different from playing video games and seeing something scary there. I'll put it like this... you cannot determine what a roller coaster feels like or see how thrilling it is just by watching a video of it... you need to go on it for yourself.

I know what you're going through and you can't escape it, so stop trying to. It doesn't matter if you get all the reasons to get scared out of your head, as soon as paralysis sets in the fear will come instantly, even before the hallucinations start.

The only way to get rid of the fear is to experience it.

Yeah I agree, look at it like asking a girl out, you'll never have a chance with her (or the LD) if you don't stand in fear, and you'll get better at it ofcourse.

The only thing you can do to overcome the fear of sleep paralysis is to face it head on. I could sit here all day and try to explain how safe it is but you would still be faced with the same feeling of anxiety when the time arrived.

The best thing you can do is willingly try to experience it on a night to night basis. Do not go into it afraid or overconfident; simply go to learn and explore. Take an open mind to the whole experience and you will come out of it that much more satisfied.

Yes. Since I'm not afraid of the dark, I've never been in SP. Geez, you better hope no one tells you about exploding head syndrome. Oops.

Unhappy My ONLY Sleep Paralysis EVER

My only SP did not happen after a WILD, and not even after a NON-LD.

It happened in school; when I was preparing for my exam in the library.

I took a break cux I was knackered from late night; grabbed large comfy cushions and went to set them up on the floor and against the wall.

I rested there, and immediately (ok that's exaggerating but it makes the sentence look good XD) fell to semi-hynagogic state.

I fell alsleep; waking up occasionally; without having any dreams whatsoever that I can recall of.

After a while, I woke up from sleep. I tried to open my eyes but failed , and then after a lot of panicking I managed to open one eyelid LOL.

I was scared ****less and wanted to tell someone about it, but found out not only can I not open my voice, I can't even open my mouth, or in fact any of my body parts.

So I was there; sitting very still like a puppet panicking; with my soul moving its mouth talking, shouting "**** WTF is goin on!??!! SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!".

Moments later my limbs begin to restore functionality one-by-one. And I walked off as if nothing happened

For a moment I thought I was going to pass out.....It was surely one of the most frightening experiences I've been through, so I don't blame you for not daring to WILD cuz you tend to SP so much!!

But one thing that's for sure though, is that you WILL ALWAYS break free; the scary thing is it feels so bad while you're in SP and knowing full well you can't yell for help if you remain like this.

I suggest getting someone to sit next to you while you attempt to WILD, but I think only a REALLY good friend would sit there in the morning waiting for you to fall asleep. LMAO

Alright, you are actually helping with what you say; but try NOT to diss the thread-starter when helping; cuz then you won't be. XD You might even tempt him to totally OWN you with his abusive comebacks .

Totally uncalled for and unnecessary.

Ok that's just a flaming comback; it's not even related to the subject and hardly understandable in english.

And no offence but your "exploding head syndrome comeback" sucked cuz I don't know what the **** you were trying to say. XD

Can't people make one day without dissing someone with a normal problem for no reason? Forget that **** about growing a pair, instead.....grow up!!! SHEEESH!! People these days...*sigh*...

My grammar was spot on, so maybe you should check what you think English is and correct it accordingly. As for exploding head syndrome, I must be very lucky because there happens to be a wikipage on it:

No one was on about your grammar. It is obvious that what you wrote made little sense, hence why I implicitly told you to get your english right.

As for the whole exploding head whatever****, 70% of the whole bloody world would not know what you were saying unless you were as pointless enough as to go email everyone in the world what you meant. LOL

Get out of your own lil world, and again- Grow Up, cuz you clearly are still failing to do so.

P.S. I'm not looking for a kiddy-fight like you here cuz I'm mature unlike you. But instead of cowardly shying away from my most obvious accusations & comebacks you should take me head-on since you clearly wants to; but cannot, for the above mentioned reason.

Don't even bother "coming back", just admit you were wrong and be nice to people; cuz you clearly lost the plot, "Tod"! XD

What does exploding head syndrome have to do with any of this? I've heard about it before. Please just keep to yourself and stay away from this forum if all you want to do is make sneering insults and prove your point.

Did your parents not pay enough attention to you when you were little? Did they yell at you a lot and possible beat you form time to time? I'm just wondering because normal people don't insult random people just for the fun of it. You seriously need to mature. Learn some manners that you were never taught by your parents.

Exploding head syndrome. It's a common symptom of sleep paralysis that most of the people on this forum probably know about.

Hey, lets not start a flame war over this. If you two cannot get along, take it to PM, don't clog the boards up with flames.

Now, Back to topic.
Here, try to create a "daydream" around it, and make up a little joke for every little thing. If a vampire comes to you looking for blood, give him some in a bag with a dye pack that will make it blow up all over him. If a zombie goes near you looking for brains, then show him to the wizard of oz down the yellow brick road. Watch when his legs fall off from skipping. If you hear a scream, insert a random yo-mamma joke. Just try to make it funny, and then laugh at it. Keep positive, if you go in scared, then you are creating the problem for yourself. Also, say to yourself "This can't hurt me", autosuggestion works. Now, GO FORTH AND DREAM!
Does anyone else find it incredibly odd that out of ALL of the possible creatures on this earth, that most furries are either lupine, vulpine, or feline?

Maybe a L-dopa (dopamine) boosting supplement. You can find a supplement called Mucuna Pruriens that will boost your L-dopa levels. This in supposed to boost your confidence and relieve fear in dreams.

I don't see why you're scared of SP in the first place. Getting this worked up will only give you a bigger chance at having said hallucinations. I had SP this morning and it wasn't scary at all. SP is usually pretty fun.

I think SP, for me, is going to be so scary just because other people may have had bad experiences with it. Your response comforts me and lowers my worries about SP, thank you. I'm glad to hear its not all bad.

Other people have had bad experiences because they make it bad. Make your experiences good. Like the others have said, there's nothing to be afraid of. I remember being in SP once. It was one of the coolest things I've ever felt. It was like being awake and asleep at the same time. I know that's kind of what SP is, but you'll see.
