      WILD through self-hypnosis

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this.

A while ago I read a whole bunch of material on self-hypnosis and learned how to go under pretty deep by myself. I came home from work tonight and thought i'd try a little experiment. Since WILD is supposedly easiest done early on the morning or before a nap, I came up with this. I got home and layed down in my bed and self-hypnotized myself and thought about lucid dreaming. i've always had a problem that i'd fall asleep during it, so i thought i might use this to my advantage. Once i felt I was well under hypnosis i thought more and more about lucid dreaming and thought about falling asleep but remained concious the entire time. I felt like I was getting really close to sleep and just watched in my mind what was happening. All of a sudden I looked like I was looking into a bright light and I started seeing the beginning of random images which i think could possibly have been the beginning of a dream. Then of course my mom came in and asked me if i was going to be here for dinner so i snapped out of it. I was hoping it was all part of my dream and a false awakening, so i did the digital clock reality check, but of course i was actually awake.

I am definately going to keep on trying this. I was just wondering if anyone else had ever done anything like this and if anyone was successful with it.

I've read so many posts where someone was interrupted just as they were getting into a lucid dream...maybe in one of those tutorials they should suggest that you should turn off or mute cell phones and place a DO NOT DISTURB sign on your door eh? Haha, good luck with that.

google it, but what i do, i dunno if its right or wrong, is use regular hypnosis techniques and do them myself. For example count down from 100 and rythm your breathing to that count (breath 1 breath 2 or w/e you like) and then ill imagine myself in a elevator or on stairs and with each floor i go down i relax more and more.

Self hypnosis is an excellent way to enter a very deep state of relaxation, and is very similar to other forms of mediation except that you would probably give yourself more mental suggestions than you would if you were just mediating. For example, you could think to yourself, I am going deeper, deeper, and deeper. As I count backwards from 10 to 1, I will enter a very deep state of relaxation. Probably the best way to learn it would be to go to a bookstore and buy a good book on self hypnosis.

What is better than self hypnosis though is regular hypnosis, although you would need another person such as a spouse or mate interested in this to help you with this. And it would be adviseable to work with someone you trust. With regular hypnosis a person can be taken very deep and easily leave their body. Many years ago when I was into hypnosis, I used to be able to get a person into a deep trance in about 3 or 4 minutes, and then have them out of their body in less than 10 minutes. I eventually gave up on this though to just mediate as I never found anyone interested enough in it that could help me do the same.

So in answer to the question. Yes, self-hypnosis would be an excellent method for achieving lucid dreams. There may even be some cassette tapes or CD's out there now with induction talks on them that a person could listen to in order to obtain this state which would be very similar to be hypnotized by a hypnotist and which would be safe.
