Yes such things do happen. It's different if it's a DILD then if it's a WILD. With a WILD I still feel as being my old self and I can act accordingly (so I don't do useless stuff as braking dishes) if I get strange compulsions. Although It also happens during DILDs so I don't know exactly how it works.
