      About SP - Falling Feeling

In Paralysis Sleep Tutorial, there is one thing about "Falling" :

"Sleep paralysis should happen very quickly (in fact on a second or two) so after the waterbed or vibrations feeling (or no feeling at all) you may suddenly feel as if you fall through your bed. This is commonly what it feels like when your mind actually disconnects from your body."

After I go to bed, I feel this falling in 10-30 min depending how sleepy I am. Does this mean that my mind disconnects from my body? Because I feel the opposite. I always feel that I am awaken by this feeling. Thats why I've never do RC after it.

What you describe -- the falling feeling waking you up -- sounds like a hypnic jerk. Do you jerk awake (not necessarily your body, but startling awake)? Hypnic jerks happen as your body just starts to enter sleep paralysis (but before you are fully paralized). Most of the time (for most people) they don't have hypnic jerks. But if you are sleep deprived or under a lot of stress they are more common. Some people just have them a lot.

      Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the respose. Well I only have them when I go to sleep, usually happens only twice. What I really want to know is if I can use it for some kind of a transition into the LD ? Or, is it just waking me up? Because I've just had one of them last night which was huge, I felt like my whole body falling to my bed, and do RC, failed. I think it's just waking me up.

Your hypnic jerks can be useful for LDing if you can stay conscious up until the point they happen and then for a few minutes more without moving and with your mind in a very calm state. If you do this the hypnic jerk will signal to you that your body is nearly asleep. Then wait for one or two minutes more without moving or opening your eyes. Then do a RC. You may find that you are dreaming.

Yeah, I totally understand. I usually only get hypnic jerks when I'm seriously sleep deprived. Drives me crazy -- finally I'm almost asleep only to jerk out of it!

Sometimes they're cool, but most of time, they're a bother. Especially during class......

I had the pleasure of learning that today...

Hypnic jerks can get really ugly when you sleep with a 5th degree black belt. Her kicks hurt!

      ROFL!

Can any of you relate to some hypnic jerks a lot worse than others? Particularly in school. I never really have physical HJs unless I'm in school or sitting up. About a week or two ago I had a REALLY bad one in school that I thought I was going to open my eyes to find myself on the floor.
