Sometimes it takes awhile of just standing there trying to maintain that position/feeling. You must verify you have a sure footing before moving anything else.
Now, bring in the table, the sink, and the dirty dishes, right up next to you while you still have one foot on the mine...you must wash the dishes and put them in the dish drainer. one at a time you do it slowly because you're still unsure of your footing, but you're getting faster, and better, and able to do more things at once than before. Now answer the phone, and talk to someone while washing dishes, drying them, and putting them in the dish drainer, all the while that you have one foot on the landmine.
Next, someone starts tossing tennis balls at you, and you have to catch them while talking, washing, keeping your foot on the mine, etc...
The whole point to this analogy is that you have to maintain the feeling and be comfortable with it. It takes time of course...once you can master the "feeling" of it then you can take on more in your dream without waking up.
