I'd just like to mention Synesthesia.

OK, so I have synesthesia (if this is a word alien to your vocabulary, well, Google is your friend ), and this is what causes me to have, what I think is a pretty exceptional memory for numbers. Also, this gives me colors to associate any word, letter or number to. Now, naturally, you'd think I'd be able to V-WILD due to me seeing colors, so all I'd have to focus on would be the word lucid, right? Well, nope. Numbers and sound are so much easier for me to recall. In fact, a number like 10c11 (shows up as a 'humming', bright word [lucid]). I can remember obscure things that have dates, too, because they locations in reference to my mind's eye. Timelines help so much with this, as you'd expect. In fact, all I'd have to do is probably create a timeline showing what happens over different courses of time when one WILDs. Or, maybe I should A-WILD (audio wake induced lucid dream?).

Well, I guess I'm just saying,
"TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR SYNESTHESIA! IT DETERIORATES OVER TIME!"

I want to plug my mind into your brain and experience what it's like.

Seriously, imagining how your mind works, or any extraordinary minds/brains, is like visualizing the size of the universe.

      *writhes in mind-agony*

      Synesthesia is awesome.

So eh, how much of Pi can you remember?
Sorry, but extraordinary people with their brains and minds are really interesting #_#

Daniel Tammet - The awesome autist guy, also has synesthesia.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbASOcqc1Ss

He memorized 22,514 digits of Pi.
      Holy hell.
      How.

      *writhes on in mind-agony*

EDIT: And what happens in your dreams when you think about numbers then?
      Hmm.

      And if you use it for gaining lucidity then it's cheating ;_;

Pi? You mean 3.141592? Ah, at least that's how many digits I need to be more than accurate for my age

You know, I've always wondered what it would be like to climb into someone else's mind and see what they see, though I've concluded that what they see would be 'filtered' into what I see so it wouldn't be correct.
      Qualia.

Not so sure about the last eight digits XD
that's 41 numbers of pi, sir

Synesthesia sounds awesome, I certainly would like to experience it sometime

Yup, as I posted in your other thread. I haven't really found a way to use it though. Even when I fall asleep listening to music, and I lie there following it around in my head, it's never really helped me to wild. Neither has any other type, like thinking of dates or personalities. Although I suppose if I started to think of TIME and just followed it up and down year after year that would get extremely boring and I'd fall asleep

      I'm going to develop synesthesia.

      You can't stop me!!

Y'know, the brain makes connections if you use them, and break connections if you don't. If I start to think of colors and shapes every time I see numbers, my brain should start to make a connection. AKA, I'll get a homemade version of synesthesia.

Then I'll just train it, and become a real person-with-synesthesia.
      \o/

      3.141592653589793238462643382795028816

That's what my brain told me, trying to remember.
Then this is copied from http://www.joyofpi.com/pi.html

      3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841

      3 41
      Fffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-

Keep in mind that I've been training this shit >_>´´

Meh, well, associating things to other things does make me remember it better, like making a story up or something.

Ofcourse it's not going to be real synesthesia, but it will still be much like it, weaker, but then it just needs training.

I'm determined I'll force myself to associate numbers to whatever from now on, and have already been doing it, and it is a bit hard so far.

If you don't think that's possible, tell me why please, or link something interesting for me to read. But don't prove me wrong, because I'm not in the mood for losing the chance. I hate being limited. And even more right now.

Did you know ALL babies are synesthetic? Even those who grow up to betray us and 'go onto the other side'

If you're gonna have a kid, stimulate all their senses at the same time and see what they tell you. But YOU, sir (Maeni), are going to need to bombard your brain with all sorts of stimuli, and for a while, too!
That or just have the longest LD ever and make yourself synesthetic.
Or you could have a neurological revamp by stroke/seizure/radioactive toxin etc.
The question is What is the question?

Well yah, maybe Lucid Dreams can be used for this.

I did read the spoiler, I was just in a bad mood yesterday, and didn't feel like being thrown farther down

But yeah, I'm gonna read some of those links.

Anyways, as I understand it, real Synesthesia
      - does not happen consciously.
      - happens all the time, constantly
      - can be genetic

And my faked version of it would be
      - happens on a conscious level
      - happens only as long as I train it

      But here's my little point!
A few months ago, I learned how to do thumbarounds (i regret that now ;_; )
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdVVt...eature=related
A useless skill, but cool nontheless. At first, I had no idea how the hell to move my fingers to make that happen.

But now, I catch myself doing it during class, while surfing the net, heck, I even find myself doing it with other peoples things that have the right shape.
Most of the time I never notice picking up the pencil in the first place.
(I think I heard somewhere awareness might be slightly important in lucid dreaming... Go me.)

I believe this is what you call: a habit!
And that's what my Fake Synesthesia will basically be, a habit!

Trained to the point where I do it, but without consciously starting it.

      Mmmhm.
Or a neurological revamp! Yay \o/
Maybe radioactive toxin isn't the safest way to induce homemade synesthesia... xD

I am so jealous of you synesthesia peeps.
Now please excuse me as I bombard you with questions.
      What kind do you have?
Have you read the book "A Mango-Shaped Space?" Is it accurate?
Is your icon how your name looks?
      What color is Emily? ^_^

As far as how to use it in your dreams... Well maybe something isn't the right color or the absence of colors? That should trigger lucidity.
Interesting how it isn't easier to do a V-Wild, though.

2.) I haven't read the book, but from as far as I know, it seems accurate. Try Blue Cats and Chartreuse Kittens, maybe.
      3.) Nahh
      4.) Emily...?
      hmm...
E is kinda dark green, m is blue, i is white, l is white and y is yellow
But put the word together and it looks different.

Popular theory is that synesthesia is a "cross-firing" between gyri in your brain (the squiggly folds on the surface of the brain that give it it's charateristic wrinkly look). So basically, the section of gyrus using numbers may have a neuronal connection with an adjacent section of gyrus using color, allowing cross firing between the two mental processes. Who knows what "senses" it's limited to. Synesthesia has been reported occurring between basically any combination of the five senses (color-sound, taste-sound, taste-texture, you name it), as well as between other mental processes, like numbers or words for instance. Some theories propose that synesthesia is universal at birth, but lost by most as we age, others say that there is a genetic predisposition to - wow I'd just like to say that there is some classical music playing in the background while I type this and all those "smilies" to the right over there > look like their dancing to it. Especially this one . Okay back to what I was saying. Others say that there is a genetic predisposition to the general gyri crossfiring mechanism.

If you want to experience synesthesia, take mushrooms. Before you know it, you'll be tasting your sofa with your fingertips. I'm not endorsing dangerous drugs though. Be safe. You can probably ( i almost want to say definitely) induce synesthesia via lucid dreaming anyway. Duh isn't that what were here (on dreamviews) for?

Well I think a common misunderstanding is that all synesthesia is very exotic and colorful and dazzling like a laser show or something.

What kind do I have? Apparently, things have a place in space. Imagine a number line in front of you, with the negatives on the left and the positives on the right (right?), and 0 right in front of you. That's kind of how I think of things, and apparently it's a form of synesthesia. To me, the past is on the left, the present is directly in front of me, and the future is to the right. Early years in a century are very far away, and later years in a century are near. 1776 is on my left, pretty close to me. 2008 is where I am (the current year is always where I am), 3008 is off to my right away from me. 2000 BC is like way the hell off to my left.
Depending on the time of year February is on the right and November is on the left (winter) or February is on the left and August is on the right (summer). (I have no idea why or when this changes, maybe I'll start writing it down and figure out the exact date!) My birthday is on the left in front of me (mid-June). Christmas is like inside my right ribs. Weeks circle around me with Wednesday in front and the weekend behind me (Saturday on the right, Sunday on the left).

Music, I can't even explain. It has places. It just does lol

Apparently this is a form of synesthesia. I thought it was BS until a psych prof described to a T where things were to me, because apparently in order-form synesthesia (I think that's what it's called) things have places, and they are typically the same for people with it.
I've never even heard of that book.
It's nothing what my name looks like. My name looks like whatever it's written as I just really like the Cheshire cat because his smile is the moon
Emily is whatever color it is written in If it's not written.... it's just 'Emily'. It makes me think of people I know named Emily

That doesn't seem odd at all to me. I guess I've always just thought of the extreme version, like seeing colors in the air for each sound.

I've been doing a little research. Do I have synesthesia to??

"Ordinal-linguistic personification (OLP, or personification for short) is a form of synesthesia in which ordered sequences, such as ordinal numbers, days, months and letters are associated with personalities."
      (from wikipedia)

I've always associated numbers with personalities.

And sometimes when I'm doing math I get feelings like.. I don't know, romance sometimes, paranoia, a sence of urgency, and then a wave of relief... But it's not me, it's like the numbers.. like listening to a movie.
But then again, that might just be my overactive imagination close to bedtime.

I myself have long had an interest in synesthesia.

As well as hypnosis =P. And I was thinking, that perhaps through hypnosis one could gain synesthesia...? Just a thought.

Yea I'm pretty sure that that is a kind, I've heard about it a bit. I also see things and just feel like they have personalities. But like this whole order-form things, I just assume it's a weird quirk I made up during roadtrips and stuff when I was bored. Maybe not though... *shrug* lol

"If you cut me blood wouldn't come out The Mars Volta would. Every one would say 'Where IS that high-pitched singing and mind-blowing guitar coming from?' and I'd be all 'Oh my bad, I cut my finger on this broken glass...'"

I have all kinds of synesthesia! Music to visual is my main one, but I also associate numbers and letters with colours and emotions.

Hey guys, I'm back. Feels good man

Synesthesia...wow. How many kinds of Synesthesia are there?
      Goals:
      1. Attacking my enemies instead of running away from them~ Ultimately taking control of my dream situation.
      2. Remember that I can always summon a shield around me to protect myself in dreams. No need to fear!
