I now know I have lucid dreams, but...

Hey. Well, it was only a few days ago I realized the dreams I've been having were called 'lucid dreams'. I was completely unaware these kind of dreams existed.

Please, if you can, read my post. D: Sorry it's so freaking long.

I've been having lucid dreams for quite a lot of years, I just didn't know what they were, so I assumed it was just weird, common dreaming.

I've been having dreams, where I don't even need to question myself whether I'm dreaming or not, I just know I'm dreaming. I find myself thinking, during the dream ''It's a dream, so it's okay for me to do everything I want to do'' and I just move on to whatever action I have in mind.

For example, just yesterday I had a dream where I was in a fairytail-like world, with houses that looked like castles, ~a lot of green grass, and people dressed in medieval clothes. It was something I had been hoping I'd see in my dreams for such a long time. And it seemed like, the world was just I wanted it to, as if I was the creator of it.

I knew right away I was dreaming, and although I was not in full of control of all things in the dream, I was at least control of my actions. I chose to walk through a road to go to a castle, and meanwhile I looked around me and caught a glimpse of all the fairytail world I had created. It seemed so real, it was quite scary, but yet I still knew it was a dream so I kept reassuring myself it's okay. I even felt as if I could smell the flowers, and I heard people shouting while working. In a way, I felt like I was the main character in a video game or something.

I remember one part where, I ran back to my house in that world, into my bedroom, and my dad showed up all of the sudden in front of me, holding a large book. He called it the ''book of his life''. He said I had to find mine too. I remember how I started looking everywhere to find it, and at that moment it felt extremely real, too. When I couldn't find it, he said to 'look deeper'. So I stared down at the floor and a blurry image of a book started developing, so I moved down and tried grabbing it, even if it felt like grabbing air, and immediately I had the book in my hands.

After that, I woke up from the dream, and stayed in bed to think about what I saw so that I remember it. Afterwards, I told myself I want to continue with the dream, so I fell asleep again, and it did continue, right where I left it.

I then chose to take another road, which leaded to a castle-like house. I really felt as if it was cold outside, so when I got into the house it was suddenly warmer. I started looking around the house, with my own will, as if to get a picture of everything in it. Yup, just like when you're playing a roleplaying game on the playstation, and you explore the virtual world around you. Suddenly, at that moment, I wished that my boyfriend could be there with me. And, well, he appeared. Even when I hugged him, it seemed terribly real.

Overall, I just didn't want to wake up from the dream, and I was very disappointed when I got woken up.

So, well, my question is...Is it normal for your dreams to feel incredibly real, even if you know you're dreaming? And is it normal for you to be able to really feel things, or even smell things, while have a lucid dream? And, maybe, is it normal to wish for something, like a loved one appearing in your dream, and for it to happen? Or I am just really weird?

Also, do you suggest something I could try to keep on having dreams like that? I'm afraid that now that I know what I'm having is lucid dreams, I won't have them as often, and I would really like for them to keep on happening. Thank you.

Hi there DreamingAway and welcome to dreamviews!

The answer to all your questions is yes! Except that you are not 'really weird' lol! Many people on this website have regular experiences like you described, myself included. There are indeed things you can do to increase the frequency of lucid dreams. You'll find the tutorial page helpful along with browsing the forum.

I was like you. I had lucid dreams but didn't know what they were called until I found this site. Since I found this forum I have greatly increased the number of LDs I have. On here I've learned about all sorts of different techniques which help induce a lucid dream. Sorry I don't have time to go into any now as I need to go to bed right now!! But as I said, if you check out the tutorials and browse around you'll learn heaps.

There is a reason these are called 'lucid' dreams. Lucid implies 'having a clear mind'. Not the best explanation, so yes it is normal. You are able to control all aspects of that world, from the people, down to what powers you wish to have. You have the power to spawn anything, only limited to your imagination.

It sounds like you are having some amazing dreams. Do you currently keep a dream journal? You could start one, here, if you want,
      http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...splay.php?f=26

We have a few members who are "naturals", like you describe. They can just recognize the feeling of a dream. You can try to send a PM to Luminous or Naiya. They don't post much lately, but are probably still around.

@ DreamQueen: Thanks! It's good to know I'm not weird, tehe. =3
And I'll definitely look around to find tips and everything~

@ Barefoot Student: Thanks for the info. It's so awesome to be able to control your dreams and make even the impossible happen. <3

@ Robot Butler: Thanks. =3 Well, I started keeping one today. I wrote down all about my dream and I decided to keep it right next to my bed so I can write down my dreams when I wake up from one.

Well, I have a few more questions. I was thinking that before I go to sleep, and I'm in bed and everything, I could start thinking of what I want to dream. Has that ever actually worked? I mean, if you start thinking a lot about a scenery, or anything, do you get to be in the place you've thought of when you fall asleep and enter a lucid dream?

I thought I would present another option with dream journaling. You can check out dream journal. I have been using since 2007, and it really is a good way of keeping journal entries.

Edit: I had a friend a while back who said she did that very thing you described to get dreams she wanted to have that night. She didn't lucid dream though.

Thanks for the link. =3 I'll see if I can get into that, although I've already started a dream journal in a notebook. The thing is, I don't always get to go online daily, so I don't know if I'll manage to write down each one of my dreams.

Remembering your dreams is really effective when it comes to lucid dreaming though, I figured. =3 I never really remembered much from my dreams, but now I remember more each time I have one.

I did try that, last night. I think I'll make a thread about it. Surprisingly, a part of my dream happened at that scenery. I wasn't lucid during all of the dream though, I had to force myself to question myself whether I was in a dream and look around for clues. When the dream turned lucid, my mother woke me up. >.>

Yeah, just do whatever you want. Personally I would keep a dream journal in real life over the PC, but I can't keep most things private in my house. I like to keep things to myself mostly.

I keep both a bedside notebook journal, and an online one. I only share dreams in my online journal if I think other people would find them interesting.

@ Barefoot Student: Well, I'll be hiding my dream journal, anyway. D: Wouldn't want my mom to start reading it. I'll consider writing down some of my dreams there though. ^ ^ The site seems nice.

@ Robot Butler: Well, that's a good point. =3 Maybe I'll definitely start a dream journal too.
