Should I WILD when napping or at night?

      So here is my situation:
I did not sleep at all last night. I can´t sleep this night either. Right now I´m feeling really dizzy. I read slowly, my eyes shut automatically for split seconds and stuff. I feel like I could fall asleep pretty fast now. And I´ve only been awake for one night. So if I won´t sleep this night either, I could imagine that I´ll become really sleepy.

Now, I really can´t go to sleep tonight. So I decided to make this benefical. I´m always having trouble falling asleep when trying to WILD. This is my chance. I just need to use the sleepyness in my next attempt. Which of these two should I do in the following night/day, when I can sleep?

      Option 1.
I sleep for 4.5h. I stay up for 5min and then try to WILD.
Good: At least I fall asleep really fast.
Bad: I may just keep sleeping like usually. I might fall asleep unconscious.

      Option 2
I sleep for 4.5h. Then later on in the day try to nap WILD.
Good: I´ll have a crystal clear mind.
Bad: Takes more time to fall asleep.

So, this is my only chance to finally WILD. Which should I do and why? Or should I do something else?

I find it's easier to stay aware when I attempt to WILD when I nap. That may just be me though....

Option one seems easier to me. It can be hard for me to fall asleep during a nap.

Why bother with the 4.5 hours of sleep at all?

If you're really tired, you may not have any problem WILD'ing as soon as you lay in bed.

Once I was exhausted from a day of kayaking and slipped into SP and an LD without even trying to.

I've read in a research article (I can try to find it if you'd like, although I may have cited it somewhere on the site already) that napping within 8-12 hours before your nightly sleep will get a bunch of your n-rem periods out of the way, so you'll enter better rem periods when you first go to sleep for the evening.

Honestly though, just experiment and find what works for you. Some people on here swear by afternoon naps. Others swear that that's impossible, and that you have to do them right at the beginning of the night. Other people think those guys are insane, and say you have to have at least 5 hours of sleep to be in your third or so rem period. And yet everyone is still WILDing. So just figure out which works best for you, and realize that it's likely not limited to one specific point in time.

There is the whole rem-rebound deal, if you are staying up for long periods of time. I don't really know any legit information on rem rebound though so I can't really offer any opinions on that.
