Thread: enough already

what is it with the same rediculous questions being asked every damn day.
if you have a simple question thats probably been answered many times already then search for it (at least a little bit, most of you dont even try), then if you cant find it post it in the newbie zone if your a newb and its a newb question. srsly words can not express how upset i get when when i log on and right next to each other see like 3 or 4 "was i close" or "was this sp" or "how come i cant wild" or the ever popular "can you lucid before bed"

i know it's rude of me to post an off topic post like this but come on.

if your just a noob here just asking the most basic of questions just wanting answers NOW at least show some courtesy to the rest of us and check if its been asked 37852 and a half times before you hurriedly make an account and ask your repetedly asked question with no intention of returning here unless YOU have another little tidbit you want to know or cant do something explained in depth 5 minutes earlier

THERE IS A NEWBIE ZONE FOR A REASON IF YOU HAVE A NOOB QUESTION USE IT



I know that we are all noobs at some point but at least think before you post. and if you have a noob qustion that you cant seem to find an answer to or have an actually problem then post it
thats why we are here we are a community that helps one another



I dont even know why im posting this, the people who its targeted at dont read other peoples posts anyway they make a quick 1 time account ask a bunch of questions that have already been answered and wait for replies with no thank yous or ever returning all together.

I agree. But other than force newbies to actually read something, what are we going to do about it?

Then again, if people didn't ask questions, what good would the Dream Guides be?

I think this is the best idea. Make a FAQ about the most asked questions

Alot of the new comers doesn't search.

I know that Google itself can't even pull that feat off just yet but it's worth a try.
Start off simple, like scanning for a question mark (?) and moving on from there.
Call the search routine "Dream~Scan". Once it's perfected you can license it out and make a mint.

That doesn't sound too bad to program using java. Anyways, FAQ sounds good, but, LD is a subjective experience and we shouldn't limit people to the threads they create. I haven't really seen any of these issues in the forums when I joined. I'm also guilty making a thread about my first LD to celebrate getting one, lol, even though I knew that it was likely an LD

So what if newbies ask basic questions and don't pay attention to the posts and just ask anyway and don't say thank you! Think of them as children and potentially accomplished SQ3R's one day. I committed the offense of posting a question of the sort you rail against, but I just did it out of enthusiasm and because I haven't had a chance to assimilate the bewildering maze here (or memorize abbreviations).

From the programming perspective it would be very easy to use some extra PHP to display some text for users that have under a certain number of posts...right above the wysiwyg editor while creating a new topic.

The text should call the users attention to the stickied posts and FAQ and emphasize that if the topic they are trying to create is a question that can possibly be answered by FAQ, stickies or search they need to check first.

Should be really easy to do in vbulletin. Could do this for all new posts as well.

[Edit] Should note it's probably impossible to shut all of these types of posts down and I'm not sure terrorizing us noobs works well either but with a modification like above and things like the FAQ someone mentioned it should be possible to cut these posts down to a minimum.
