Sorry, disagree. Each person is different and wants an answer to their exact experience. Remember no two experiences relating to lucid dreaming are ever going to be exactly the same. Plus, new discoveries are being made all the time in the world of lucid dreaming and they may want the answer that is most up to date with current research.

Now what would be a good idea would be a teenagers section and a mature members only section, say 30+. Although even some 30 year olds are immature lol!

"Noobs" that ask these kinds of questions are a simple fact of every web forum and IMO making a sticky won't help much unfortunately. Its a great idea but its been tried on every other forum ive been a part of.

Unless we are will to adopt a totalitarian like policy of banning those who do not read the sticky before posting, the "noobs" who dont care enough to read before asking, won't bother to read it anyways. It could help overall but you probobly won't see the results you're looking for.

Repeated questions bother me too, but like DreamQueen said, especially in lucid dreaming, tossing out or discrediting a question at first glance because it appears like something that has already been awnsered, isn't fair or productive because lucid dreaming is so subjective and personal.

I reccently asked a question that wasn't really awnsered because it was in a way dismissed as a FA allthough, i'm fairly positive it was something else entirely.

sure we could do something about the repeat questions but how much freedom would we be giving away? do we really want to stifle different points of view as an unfortunate side effect of getting rid of some annoying threads?

I'd rather point out the mistake to the people doing it and if they don't change, then take action.

You missed the best one. "Was this a lucid dream?" *gouges eyes out*
Answer: If you knew it was a dream, yes. If you didn't, no.

The FAQ is a pretty good idea though. Plus I agree with Lysergic Lucidity.

EDIT: Better yet, in the FAQ link to threads where the question is explained/answered.

Maybe. Just tossing out ideas, not in the mood to refine them.

You'd probably need all your little fingers and toes, and then some, to count the number of times that this exact issue has been brought up, along with possible solutions.

But for whatever reason these kinds of changes (like making a FAQ) take a LONG time to take effect on DV. I once volunteered to take on a huge project (either this exactly or something similar, I forget now) and was ignored, probably because I'm not staff.

Sooo, not sure what to tell ya. Keep trying?

Oh, get over yourself. If you don't want to answer dumb questions, don't. There are plenty of us who don't mind. It doesn't matter what you do, no-one will read the rules. I didn't when I joined.

I agree, I'm tired of seeing those threads also. "Was this SP?!?!"

Short answer: If you have to ask it probably wasn't!

i know exactly what your saying and i totally agree no two snowflakes look the same and everyones sittuation is unique but, like snowflakes, a crap load of them are almost identical.
most of these repeated questions are just blunt short questions like "how do i keep from swallowing when wilding" and "can i listen to music while wilding"
its questions like these that are a problem,
but i have absolutly nothing against people with situations and questions that arent just carbon copies of a question asked and answered very thuroughly 5 minutes earlier. i cant really think of a good example of what i mean but im sure u understand

in the past ive had questions and searched for it and found fairly recent posts worded almost exactly as i would have asked and got some very useful answers. it works well for most situations

I agree with this post but im still going to stay out of this one since its my ways to help those who ask no matter how stupid or how many times the same has been asked

but on the other hand making a FAQ for noobs is a good idea

I've also thought that if we were to have a FAQ, it would be a good idea to put together a series of links pointing to threads on the topic. For example, you could have under the heading of WILD (these are just examples and not exactly "prime" examples for a minute of searching):

      Where to start
      Am I close?
      How should I breathe?

And so on. Under a "Reality Checks" FAQ one could have "What kind of RCs are there?" "How often should I do them?" "Reality Checks are failing!" etc.

      Just a thought.

Anything to do with eating something before bed.

-Should I eat a banana before bed?
-Would eating chocolate before bed help?
-My friend said I should eat cheese before bed.
-I got a great idea: drink coffee AND eat nuts before bed!

Uggghhh. Those types really drive me nuts.

This might be a little tricky but given a significant amount of programming time you could
have the software scan the contents of the text entered into the textbox,
examine any questions in the text string and automatically direct the user to the appropriate
thread where his question has already been answered.

I know that Google itself can't even pull that feat off just yet but it's worth a try.
Start off simple, like scanning for a question mark (?) and moving on from there.
Call the search routine "Dream~Scan". Once it's perfected you can license it out and make a mint.

I think if you could program something like this and turned it into a product that could be sold, you'd be a wealthy man.

You know how many forums with the same "noob" problem as us would KILL for somthing like this?

"Yahoo answers" has such a system. You enter your question, and it automatically shows you resolved questions that resemble your own.
      Check it out.
