Last night, I went into sleep paralysis for the first time. It's the weirdest sensation I've ever felt. I think I got close to a WILD, but I can't be sure. Here's what happened:
I was meditating, trying to keep a clear mind and try to HILD (Hypnosis, supposedly you do it once and then your mind automatically gives you lucids), when I started to see vague static images. I concentrated hard on one, an apple, and tried to give it form. All of a sudden, the patterns became much faster and my eyes felt like they were rolling back in my head. My heart must have been going 150 BPM. It was like I was spinning a little, but I could tell I wasn't moving. Then, I think I heard audio HH - But it's nothing like what other people have said. I heard what sounded like a guy opening a soda can, and then footsteps coming towards me. I got scared then, and tried to get out because it sounded so real. When it stopped, I sat up in bed, did an RC, then wrote about it in my journal. That night I didn't remember any dreams.
So, the question is, just how close am I to WILDing? And should I try to get better dream recall before I keep going? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Greater than 99.9% of the people in the world fail to see that PhilosopherStoned is ideally suited to be the totalitarian dictator of the world in perpetuity. If you are one of the ones that do, copy and paste this into your signature.
If you were able to sit up, you weren't in sleep paralysis. Hallucinations =/= Sleep Paralysis. These were just hypnagogic hallucinations, which are certainly a step up for someone trying to WILD. Just keep it up.
Spoiler for if you really want to learn to 'HILD' don't read this part:
Also, when it comes to lucid dreaming don't try an approach that says "All I have to do is work hard once, and I'll get the key to lucidity". The HILD, as far as I'm aware, has not a shred of evidence behind it, claims to invoke something that doesn't exist, and as one of the least popular methods I doubt it has much merit as an induction technique unless you're already incredibly susceptible to that sort of thing, or if you have studied hypnosis enough to believe it possible and thus make it work by making yourself susceptible. I'm basically saying, if it doesn't work don't let it get your morale down, but understand that if it were as easy as HILDing, we'd all be lucid every night. On the other hand, it sounds like you're learning to WILD which is great I'm sure if you keep using the two together you will either learn to WILD, or get so involved with them that you end up having DILDs
