      keeping a dream journal

So i took a pretty long break from lucid dreaming during the school year and now that its finally summer again, i want to try to get back into it. I just have one problem though. In the past its always been pretty hard for me to keep a dream journal. I always start one, then after a week or two i get too fed up with writing them. This might be partly due to the fact that my recall keeps getting better, forcing me to write more and more. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas of what i could do to keep myself focused on continuing with the journal, or if you guys know any alternatives. Do most people still keep a dream journal even after they've mastered lucid dreaming?

Yes, they do. A dream journal is really important, and if you stop writing in it you will lose your recall, and you will lose the ability to become aware in your dreams.

If you're really bored of writing complex and detailed dreams, then just write what's the most important thing that happened in the dream, or write only a few keywords.

Lick a dog? (Sorry was reading yellowlight sig and thought that was odd.)

Anyway, a dream journal is always needed but it don't need to be written. You can record your voice which is faster and often you can give more detail in a shorter amount of time.

What do you use for recording it?

So, what did the dog taste like?

You could get a voice activated digital dictation machine, or a digital voice recorder. Then when you wake up, all you have to do is talk into the recorder, and you don't have to write anything down. Then, at your convinence, you can play it back and write it down if you want, or if you wanted, you could spend a little more money and get some transcription software and run the digital recording through that, and it'll spit out a text version that you can save or print to keep as a hard copy. The only thing wrong with transcription is that if you slurr your words when you're tired, the software could have problems deciphering it. And some of the cheaper softwares aren't really worth it, because they have a high rate of error, and a low tolerance for things like accents, contractions, and imperfect English.

Personally, I find that I can remember more detail as I write, as opposed to digitally recording what I say, and that's incentive enough for me to keep writing in a dream journal.

It didn't really taste like anything, but it was disgusting. I could feel the hair against my tongue.

Sorry for getting this thread somewhat off topic (derailing it) but I couldn't help myself from asking.

Anyway back on topic. I don't record my voice and many people will say that writing it would have a better effect. I write my own.

If you too tried to get up then write down the key things. I keep loose paper around my computer at all times and here a list of things I wrote after a dream one time:

      Stick Ranger (it a game)
      Green
      Not me
      Duel > Hell
      Letter
SOVI? (I don't even understood what I wrote here and I don't recall anything.)

Be careful of sloppy hand writing as writing keywords may be your last defense from forgetting that dream.
