      A Lack of Motivation

I've known about lucid dreaming for around four years or so. However, I am not near as far as I feel I should be with my lucid dreaming goals. I suppose it has to do with a lack of patience and motivation. Hopefully I can rebuild myself and get back on track after quite a long "break".

In the past, when I was somewhat successful in my goals of attempting to obtain lucidity, I had good recall. Right now my dream recall is horrible. I used to be at the point where I could remember 2 or more dreams a night. Now, I hardly remember my dreams at all.

So, aside from gaining patience, motivation, and confidence, I think a major thing and the first step I need to work on is improving my dream recall.

My methods for actually obtaining lucid dreams were quite simple, though perhaps not quite as effective as another method would be. I wrote about my dreams in detail. When it was bed time I would sometimes look over my dream and/or read a bit about lucid dreaming on the net or in my book "Lucid Dreaming: A Concise Guide to Awakening in Your Dreams and in Your Life" by Stephen LaBerge.

The few times I actually had a lucid dream, two things ALWAYS happened: I woke up in a bed, and I did a reality check by poking the palm of my hand (I would know it was a dream if my hand was tingly or my finger when through it).

Perhaps I could use these two things in my future attempts, but I don't know how. Any ideas?

Aside from that, any ideas on methods or anything else would be greatly appreciated.
      I need some help!

you can check the tutorials found here http://dreamviews.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=25 to help you on induction techniques.

As for motivation, you could browse through other peoples dream journals, and see what adventures they're having. It really seems like you have all the right things already. Just keep writing down whatever fragments you have until you're back on track with regular dreaming. If you if have any questions about other things just ask. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site that will help guide you in the right direction.

Well, for something as lucid dreaming I think that first and foremost you have to accept the fact that it'll be a journey that requires patience ^^ That doesn't mean you won't have lucid dreams for a long time to come (I got my first one 1 week after starting all this!), it just means that.. well... patience! hehe. It might sound strange, but jumping into it all again without having accepted the fact that it might take a while can cause problems.

What have helped me in the past, and currently, is setting up a small plan for myself, just a few steps of what I would like to do to achieve more lucid dreams. For example, step one could be regaining a good dream recall (Tip here, if you don't already, use a dream journal! Write everthing down from every bit of dream you remember, this will greatly increase your recall). And then step 2 could be to address dream signs from recorded dreams etc etc etc, just a small way of planning how you wanna progress to achieve your goal.

this helps me in the way that I don't get "lost" or stuck in the process of trying to achieve lucid dreams, or that I get way ahead of myself. All this can eventually lead to lack of motivation because you don't really get anywhere. But make and stick to a small plan helps me out ^^

Oh and of course, you can also read all of the cool experiences people share on this forum to get a kick start in motivation. After all, who wouldn't love a world where the limit literally IS your imagination

Besides that you can also check out tutorials as Psylis mentioned, try out some new techniques, or add to the ones you're currently using.

I think a major thing and the first step I need to work on is improving my dream recall
As I mentioned above in short, keep a dream journal to increase your dream recall! It's very important. Not only that, but it can help you find patterns and dream signs that you can use yourself to gain an even better chance of achieving lucid dreams.

      Good luck!

Well, possibly do more RC's. And you never know, are you sure DILD's are the best way to go for yourself? Have you experimented with other ways? Have you tried finding dream signs in your dreams yet?

Setting up a plan or making short term goals for myself seems like a good way to keep up (and improve my patience ). I'll definitely have to do that.

In the past I have used a dream journal. It did help a lot. Last night I started from scratch with a new one.

Thank you for the links about motivation and technique. I'll be reading over both of them!
