It means to perform reality checks during the day, in hope that the habit will carry over into your dreams. Once a reality check fails, lucidity is achieved.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

What you have to do is imagine what would happen if you WERE dreaming ...really put feeling into it when you ask yourself, "Am I dreaming?" ..I do this many times a day ...without even having a solid dream sign ...and that's how I become lucid (about 10 times lol) ...I just randomly did a reality check.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

      Yep.

They say you should keep a dream journal and write down all your dreams ...the point of this is to build up good dream recall, so you won't actually forget any lucid dreams you might of had.

The second point is to read your journal entries and search for things that don't make sense ..things that only happen in a dream. If you read a lot of your entries and notice a lot of the same stupid shit happening, then you can make that your dream sign. You tell yourself, "Next time I see this dumb shit, I'll know it's a dream".
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

Didn't notice your journal, sorry lol.

Well yea search it for strange stuff that continues to happen in a lot of your dreams ...so next time you see it in your dream you think, "Hey! I'm dreaming".

But you still gotta do reality checks. During the day whenever you think of your dream sign, or see or hear something that reminds you of it, do a reality check.

If weed shows up a lot. Then make that 1 of your dream signs. Now whenever you think of weed ...or get reminded of weed ..perform a reality check ...it seems annoying at first but it will soon become second nature if you're persistent.

It doesn't have to be out loud. But put feeling into it when you're questioning the reality around you.

And yea if Josh is consistent in your dreams, perform reality checks when you see em, or hear about em, this might seem homo at first, lol. (Just kidding).

just noticed this thread- what I do during the day, is, say, during my walk to the store I spend the entire time repeating "I will do a reality check and realise I'm dreaming" over and over in my head, while on the lookout for anything suspicious and doing an RC every once in a while.

This is your problem. I suggest you sit back and think about what dreams are. Dreams are hallucinations, the perception of things in the general absence of anything actually causing a stimulus from outside your body. Dreams can be incredibly realistic, your mind interpreting that you are seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and tasting.
I'm not saying the world around you isn't real, but I think an important part of learning to DILD is to ask yourself, "How do I know for a fact that right now, even though I think I'm awake and in the real world, that I'm not actually just in a dream? Literally, how can you tell? How do you know that the screen in front of you actually exists? How do you KNOW that it's not just random firings, a hallucination? Go on, reach out and touch it. Are your fingers actually rubbing along the monitor, causing sensors in your fingertips to fire to your brain alerting you to pressure? Or is your brain saying "OH, stnicka is touching something, I'd better figure this texture and temperature out and provide him with the sensation of experiencing it?"

I'm sure you've seen The Matrix, as almost everyone on this site has for good reason. Think of it like Neo. Here he was living this world, waking, eating, sleeping, shitting, fucking in this world, and suddenly he realized that nearly every aspect of it was false. That he was really laying somewhere asleep. Imagine that this is the case when you are reality checking. Never assume to know for a fact that you are awake. Ever.

      Now, with the above mindframe:
