Dream Recall vs. Going Lucid - which comes first upon waking?

      Hi All,

It dawned on me that at the moment I come out of a dream I am often confused at the policy level.

Which to do? Try to recall the dream or go lucid? At first, I realized I was going for recall... so I could write it down. Then it dawned on me this was totally getting in the way of my getting a LD.

Does one come at the expense of the other? Once I realized this I stopped attepming recall first, and now go for the WILD or perhaps (if i am lucky and have remembered some of my dream) a DEILD.

Is there a priority? Ie does one always do one first, like, say, recall at least one dream per night, or try for at least one LD?

I guess since often i wake up in the AM and have several chances i could try some of both, if i trained myself that way. I just want to know if there is a proper or best way to go about this.

      Thanks,
      bg

In my opinion you'd be better off trying to WILD rather than remember your dreams. After all, remembering them is only an aid for LDing, and that's what you're choosing from, to LD or to remember. It's no good to choose an aid if you could intead choose the real thing.

If you find out that you absolutely cannot get a LD this way then maybe it's good to switch to an aid instead. But not before that

...but if you can't remember your dreams, what's the use in LDing at all.... i suggest you work on getting your recall up first, so you know your gunna at least remember some of it when you wake up and then you can start going straight to the LD's and stuff. i dunno maybe i mis-understood your post but it seems to me to be kinda pointless doing an LD if your not gunna remember it after anyway right haha
      Total LD's = 6 and counting! lol
      DILD: 5
      WILD: 1
