      Unhappy Afraid of confusing waking time with dream

      Is the possibility that, when you are a good lucid dreamer
      and get one nearly every night, that you go crazy and start to think that whenever you wake up you're in a dream?? or maybe if you see something weird you think you're in a dream and then maybe wanna fly and start flapping your arms and stuff... in front of everyone... or jump off a building or out of a window????

      I DO NOT want this to happen to me lol!!

      But does the possibility exist???

      Try sticking your finger through your palm. If you can stick your finger through your palm, you can be preeeeetty sure you're dreaming.

      Okay
      But what when -in a dream- you are sooo confident you are NOT dreaming that you cannot put your finger through your hand?

      On the one hand, why are you RCing if you're sure you're not dreaming?

      If you're RCing anyway, then do two or three RCs. Look at your hands and make sure they look normal, pinch your nose and try to breathe through it, etc. In general though, you're not going to catch every dream with RCs

      if you do RC's and they fail (such as finger through palm) you can be sure you arent dreaming

      Banana: No, reality checks can fail even if you are dreaming.

      But in answer to the original question, I highly doubt you could go crazy and think that you're dreaming when you're awake unless you were already crazy before you got into lucid dreaming.

      I think the only way someone could go crazy with lucid dreaming was if they had serious metal issues, such as schizophrenia or something. That is, someone who has that illness that's not being treated.

      But anyways, the whole point of RC is to help you open your eyes and see whats real life and what's not.

      As the others said, you can do RCs to see if you are awake or sleeping, so you don't do anything completely ridiculous! But I guess, somewhere, someone has made that mistake! Don't let it happen to you!

      a reality check working is when it says you are awake. it works. the reality check worked, you are awake

      it fails when you are not awake.

      hahaha I sort of thought I was dreaming in geometry, I came pretty close to getting up and running out of the room... or jumping out the window :0
      But THEN, I did a couple reality checks, that failed, realized I was not dreaming, and then learned the concept of "bisecting" things! =D
      Just make sure to do RCs whenever you think you may be dreaming, and you will be fine! And of course doing RCs will help you gain lucidity in your dreams too!

      Are you dreaming now? Do a reality check.

      In short,
      pass --> awake
      fail --> dreaming

      I agree. What you said earlier was:

      fail --> you aren't dreaming --> awake
      My guess is you either meant "are dreaming" instead of "aren't dreaming," or pass instead of fail.

      So, revising my earlier statement, I would point out that reality checks don't always fail when you are dreaming.

      @ Luigi: Oh, wow... That is hilarious. xD

      Ok thanks for the many replies
      So whenever my RCs fail, I'll assume I'm awake, even if I'm dreaming after all...
      Maybe do 3 reality checks instead of one or two, just to make sure?

      Cheers,

      Will.

      I hope someone tries to convince me that I'm dreaming when I know I'm awake. I would shout, "If I'm dreaming, then you won't feel this!" and slap them. That would be fun. =D

      That defeats the purpose of a reality check. Unless you meant to say pass instead of fail...

      Huh, I'm confused now...
      so when you RC, let's say... try to put your finger through your palm :
      When your finger passes through your palm it's a PASS? (dreaming)
      When your finger DOESN'T pass through your palm it's a FAIL? (awake)

      Is this correct? or is it the other way 'round

      Cheers,

      Will.

      I believe it's the other way around. You don't usually hear about reality checks passing much... usually they fail and that makes you lucid. You're checking reality; if it passes (finger doesn't go through your palm) it means you're in reality. If it fails (finger does go through your palm) then you're not in reality (you're dreaming).

      Long story short:
      RC passes --> you're awake
      RC fails --> you're dreaming

      Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

      Okay TYVM,
      So if my RCs PASS, no "jumping off skyscrapers expecting to be able to fly" for me!!
      Must stay sane and always know if I'm awake or dreaming...

      Cheers,

      Will.

      Lol, yes. If you plan on trying to fly but aren't completely sure whether or not you're dreaming, I'd advice jumping off of a box rather than out of an airplane. ^^

      One time, I had a very vivid dream that I married one of my class mates. This was one of those long dreams that span years. Anyways, when I saw her the next day, I had forgotten that our marriage was a dream, so I went to put my arm around her and kiss her. Then I realized my folly and tried to cover by yawning. That could have been awkward.

      NOW that makes much more sense than it did before. Thanks Hidden. This use to always confuse the heck out of me back when I was a newbie (and even when I wasn't a newbie), so I just didn't say it.
