      Catching a False Awakening

So last night, I slept on an un-folded futon. Sometime during the night, I woke up, and my head were where my feet were. I turned back around though. For the few seconds I was awake during this time, I was very glad that I awoke, because I thought that I was in one of those 'brief wake ups that is very hard to remember' and that I could use this another time to WILD.

After a few hours of being awake, it occured to me. How did I turn fully around, when I was sleeping on an unfolded futon? (It was pretty much a couch. So we'll call it that.) I came to the conclusion that it was a false awakening.

So my question: would RCing every time you wake up, be a good way to catch false awakenings?

I've often wondered the same thing myself. The big problem is, you blow your chances of DEILDing.

For sure. I've caughten a few FA's because I've gotten used to doing a reality check everytime I wake up. It's a nice habit to get into. But it's been a while and I kind of got out of the habit.

I'm not quite trying to get a DEILD just yet. I still would like my first WILD. Though I'll keep that in mine when I do try.

DEILDS are much easier than WILDS, at least in my opinion, you should try it. But yes, you should make a habit of reality checking after you wake up, I do it when I'm writing my dreams down in a notebook beside my bed.

Yes. The best way to catch a false awakening is to just RC every single time you wake up. When you RC, ask yourself where you are, and how you got there. Look around to spot any odd differences in your surroundings. Maybe put a sign next to your bed that says "RC" for a while to get into the habit.

Now I have another question. How can I remember to do a RC every time I wake up? I have always been trying to RC when I wake up, but I can never ever remember!

yes if you can train yourself to do an automatic RC every time you wake up, it would almost eliminate the possibility of this happening. I try to do an RC when I wake up but I usually forget. I rarely get false awakenings anyway so it's not a big deal for me.

Yep, Naiya is right. If you get into the habit of RCing everytime you wake up from a nap or a full night's sleep, it great increases your chances of becoming lucid in a false awakening.

Excellent trick. A blindfold, make sure its compfy. If you can see when you "wake up" you haven't. If you can see at any point without taking it off, you're in a dream! You don't have to move therefore you don't wreck your chances of catching some SP or a DEILD. You don't even have to remember to RC, because theres a blindfold!
