How to avoid getting caught up

I tried a kind of successful wild last night but i got too caught up in my dream which wasn't lucid. I dreamed that there was a war and an invasion happend , i think i dreamed that dream because of day resedue, or whatever you call it that the wild tutoral or some tutoral spoke of. I heard something war related on the news yesterday, any way, my question is, first i could've become lucid in last night's dream but fear overcame me and i could achieve lucidity, so, how can you avoid getting too involved in a dream, so it can become lucid? There was just too much action in that dream, and i didn't have time to reality check or see my dream sign. I was too involved in following other dcs who were running and hiding, it was like it was a war movie.

Sounds like a pretty cool dream, my advice would be try really hard to control yourself no matter what happens, sounds simple I know but it takes some serious trying Good Luck

I dont think you can avoid becoming too caught up in a dream. If it seems real and you do not realise you're dreaming then of course you are going to get caught up in it! Sometimes though, if the dream is really bad, this can work in a positive effect for me where i begin to question if i am dreaming out of pure desperation and despair.
Sort of like, "this is awful, what can...hey wait a minute, oh thank god! its a dream isnt it!"
So i guess in a way its just a bit of luck, for me it is anyway, whether i am in despair enough to question the reality of the situation. And that way, no reality checks are necessary. I guess you can say the dreamsign is a very bad situation.

Yeah I haven't actually had a LD yet, but I always find in nightmares like that I'm thinking "crap, how am I gonna continue my life" and then I try and question whether everything is happening or not. I could try to make this into some sort of RC.

The only hard part of this is containing yourself long enough to become lucid. Usually, i am just so relieved at the realisation that it is not a dream i just wake myself up without so much as a second thought

Yeah you're right about that being a dream sign, i guess i need more practice in catching my dream signs, there are new ones being created all the time, my fear in dreams is the main thing that keeps me from being lucid, i get lucid dreams 2 to 3 times a week but, sometimes fear and what dcs say either prevents me from becoming lucid, or makes me loose lucidity, thanks for the suggestions.
