I am going to take a guess that you tried this as soon as you went to bed? Correct?
Your brain has differnt brainwave states, Gamme, Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta. When you fall asleep you shift from Beta down to Delta and back up to high level Theta / Alpha. When you are in REM (dreaming) your brainwaves look almost identical to that of when you are awake.
A common mistake a lot of people make with WILD is that they try it when they are first falling asleep for the night. It can take up to 90 minutes to move through the first cycle before a dream ( a proper dream) forms. And this dream is usally the shortest of the night.
MY advice to you would be to either cat nap and attempt WILD, or wake up about 4am if you went to bed around 9ish and try then. Either you will disrupt a REM cycle and be able to fall back into it almost right away or you will be close.
WILD is not easy for some people and others find it very simple, keep working on it and try different things and dont get to annoyed. If you find you cant get to sleep get up walk around for a while and try again, otherwise, you probally wont have a restful night at all.
Best of luck.
