Is a WILD worth the effort?

Been reading everything I could about WILDs to get the best results, but after reading what some people wrote, I'm wondering if it is worth the time and effort. I've heard some freaky things about them, too, and I get scared kinda easy . Shoud I try something else?

I'm the same as you! With all those strange sensations and imagery and such, I tend to get a little too anxious and excited. And some of them scare me too
So I've decided not to keep trying WILD until I get the hang of all of these things. But unfortunately, the only thing that works for me is luck, just waiting for an LD to show up!
But I would recommend trying more reality checks while you're awake. If you get into the habit, then chances are it could carry over into your dreams.

PS: The clock trick seems to work for me (I'm 1 for 1!). Glancing at a digital clock, then looking away, and glancing back again to see if the numbers are different.

It's well worth the effort! To move directly from being awake into a lucid dream is a truly amazing thing!
Don't be worried about any of the sensations or things people have said. WILD is perfectly safe.

Yeah, what are you afraid of? You can't hurt yourself during a WILD, nothing can hurt you either. It's not like you see anything horrifyingly scary, the images are just kinda strange but you are sort of in and out of consciousness anyway so it's no big deal. I definitely think its well worth the effort. I've successfully had 2 WILDs on purpose and about a hundred that sort of happened without any effort. But the two that I did have intentionally resulted in amazing experiences with very vivid and long lucids. I would encourage anyone to WILD. But you have to be patient...at least for me it takes a good 45 minutes of just laying there thinking about stuff before I enter into sleep paralysis. Good luck!

Geh, I can't do WILD's, too hard for me.

Do you have to wake up then try a WILD or can you do it when you're going to sleep? Last night I woke up at two and tried a WILD, the second I went back to bed I fell asleep, even after drinking a whole coke.

I find that the only way I can LD, is threw WILD. You dont have to wake up to WILD, I do it when i go to bed. I simply slide right in.

I'm just wondering if you have to sleep for 5-6 hours and then attempt, could it be a daily routine before you sleep and would you still gain the same results?, and does the WILD make you more tired?

it takes me about an hour to two hours of relaxing/meditating. Depending on the time, I try do WILD every night but I'm usually up really late so I just sleep. I find WILDs to be relaxing, not tiring. WILDs tended to be discouraging when I first started three years ago, but if you keep up at it, the results can be well worth it.

I'm not sure how it is for other people, but when I WILD, it's during naps midday, so to answer your question no...I think you can WILD whenever! I will usually nap for about an hour and a half when I am trying to WILD...45 minutes to get into sp, several minutes of waiting through vibrational state/HI...then lucid...then sort of wake up, and get lucid again - that will go on for about a half hour or more.

Couldn't get it last night just kept losing concentration on my breathing and thinking about other stuff but if it doesnt' work tonight i got a better idea. I wasn't ghaving any luck getting those HIs either but i figure if i can get that far the other stuff will come a little easier and i'll just have to bear through the vibrations.

what about the voices? the vibrations? aren't they discouraging? i mean, who wants to hear voices near them and not be able to open their eyes? and, who wants to shake like crazy in the middle of the night when they want to sleep?

Oh, and you do need to, well at least from my expiriences, need sleep before you attempt a WILD. Every time I've fallen asleep conciously nothing happens, maybe tonight I'll wake up then try a WILD and see what happens.

Sorry, I don't really know how to quote... From what I've read, WILDs work best after sleeping, probably cuz u don't really dream in the first couple hours of sleep... whatever, I don't really know about it. I know that the only LDs I've ever had happened after waking up in the middle of the night, whether that has anything to do with it or not [list]

      I DO! I DO!

After you get used to it, the vibrations are not very annoying. I've never heard voices or any other noises when I WILD. Everyone is different, all I can advise is, give it a try!

I need a little help with the WILD. I managed to get pretty far last night; body paralysis, crazy vibrations, and i was seeing amazing colors and pictures. But what do i do after that? I layed their getting the colors back and forth and i may or may not have heard sounds cause my celing sounded like it was creaking and leaking like insane but it could have been rom all the snow. It was an amazing experience but after like an hour and a half or so i gave up and went to sleep. How do i get to the part where i make it into the dream?

Aren't you supposed to kinda focus on the imagery, but also not focus too much? And eventually it'll just work? Anyway, congrats on getting that far, I was going to try last night but I figured I had finals and I didn't want to be tired if it didn't work.

Vibrations scare me but not half as much as being unable to move your body!

I haven't tried WILD yet because of the thought of lying there unable to move.
How do you know its perfectly safe? and how long do you have to suffer being unable to move?
Lets all do something mental like steal a traffic cone.

Lol, strangely, not being able to move is what attracted me to WILD. The idea just seems so cool and surreal, like passing out and not remembering what happened just a few moments ago (Never experienced this, just sounds interesting).

Hey I've been practising WILD for a fair while now, no results yet, but I'm getting really close. I can get into sleep paralysis etc, and then this morning I got this crazy sensation where it felt like a pressure on my chest stopping me from breathing, but I had heard of it on here before so I stayed calm and pressed on untill I had been doing it for maybe 40 mins, but I didn't really know where to go from there. I tried just letting myself 'slide' into sleep and I think I got close, but I'm not sure.

Sleep paralysis occurs just before you enter the dream and is a normal part of the sleep process. You enter it multiple times each night. When doing WILD, you will not be concious of it for long.
In any case though, if you are in sleep paralysis and need to get out of it for some reason, like your house catches fire, all you have to do is concentrate on waking up. It shouldn't take more that 15-20 seconds for the paralysis to fade.

Everytime I have tried WILD I dont feel any vibrations. But I do feel a sinking sensation and hear things that sound like chainsaws or a weed cutter or something. Nothing really too freaky.

(Yea, Dream Views is back!!!) I went into SP last night, but did not experience any HI. I then felt a pain in my foot (it was rubbing up against a rough blanket) and I had to move it. I was able to get out of SP in about 15 seconds, but then lacked the stamina to try WILD again. (soo close, I think) SP is nothing to be concerned about. I've never had a successful WILD but yet I know this. Oh, and does everyone here experience HI?

I just had my first WILD last week. I wasn't consciously trying to have one, it just happened.

I woke up at 5am, stayed in bed for 10 minutes trying to recall a dream, went to the bathroom and then sat down on the edge of my bed trying to decide if I should try to induce an LD or just go back to sleep.

Sleep won as I was very tired. Out of habit, I still affirmed to remember that I'm dreaming and to have an LD after I got back in bed. I only said it a few times as I wasn't trying too hard to have an LD.

Twenty minutes later, I was watching the HI and it was more intense than usual. It seemed to peak as I was looking at it. This has happened before with no result but this time, just for fun, I decided to cross my eyes as you do when looking at stereo images or pictures. (I'm reading too much Castaneda!) I imagined two small boxes in my field of vision and then merged them by "crossing my eyes" when the HI was at it's peak. I immediately got the lucid "rush" and was lying in bed, knowing that I was dreaming and lucid.

At this point, I'm not sure what happened but I decided to get up and explore, since I was dreaming. When I sat up, it felt very odd, as if I floated up in slow motion. I stood up next to my bed and turned around and saw myself in bed. I couldn't see my face but I knew it was me.

I watched myself for a few minutes and then decided to look for a friend of mine. I floated through a wall to the outside but everything was black...I couldn't see. The next thing I remember is waking up in bed.

I've asked a few people about this and all agree that it was a WILD. Some say that it was a Lucid Dream because I actually said that I knew I was dreaming. Others say that it was an OBE, which is what I thought it was at first.

FYI, I had no vibrations, heard no voices or sounds, and didn't feel another presence in the room. I went straight from watching the HI to knowing that I was dreaming and lucid in bed in a heartbeat.

      Comments welcome!

      Thanks,
      #6
