      I can't get SP

      Hi,
I've been interested in lucid dreams for a long time. I tried DILD, WILD, VILD (which is actually a sub-type of WILD) etc. I had some semi-lucid and lucid dreams but they all were DILDs.

I am trying to have a lucid dream via WILD but I can't get SP. I lay in my bed on my back, close my eyes and wait. My body starts to feel numb. I sense some movements of my head, back and forth but actually it is not real. Then nothing happens. I get bored after 20-30 minutes and try to move. I am not paralyzed. Am I missing something? Is there a vital tip which can help me?

      Thanks.

First of all, Welcome to Dreamviews!

How many times have you attempted WILD? Can you explain in detail exactly what you do when you WILD?

For most people it actually takes some practice to get WILD right. SP is a very strange thing, and comes more easily to some than others.

When it comes to WILD, normally you want to attempt it around 6 hours after you initially go to sleep. So you can set an alarm for yourself to wake up for a few minutes and then attempt the WILD. This way, you'll hopefully be tired enough to fall asleep but had enough rest that you can keep conscious during the transition.

      Hi
      Thanks.
I've maybe tried to get an SP, while standing still at bed-time on bed over 20 times. I get weird sensations. My body gets numb. But I don't get paralyzed or halusinations.
I've tried WILDing over ten times and I fell asleep on the most. Actually my problem is not having an SP. Is it possible to have an SP at bed-time?

I never have SP. In fact, I am pretty sure it is nearly impossible for me to get SP. Though I have had WILDs before, just without SP. I never see any of the images either.

There is really two ways to go about it. Either you need to find some way to distract your mind so you can lay there for even a longer amount of time without getting bored(or falling asleep.) Or you need to try to time it right like Naiya suggested.

You actually enter REM sleep quicker aftering getting rest. So the early morning attempts don't take as long, and getting bored is less of a factor. Though if you are to rested you might have trouble sleeping.

Not recommended. As Naia mentioned above, it's best to try it during a WBTB or at least after getting around 6 hours of sleep, so your REM periods are long and close together. The problem with trying it when you first go to bed is, it takes 90 minutes or so before you enter a REM period. The idea with entering SP is that you go DIRECTLY into REM, and the best way to maximize your chances for that are to wake up after about 6 hours of sleep and then WILD.

Also as I understand it, WILD is a kind of advanced technique best suited to people who are already accomplished at inducing lucids. The best techniques for beginners are generally WBTB and DEILD. I mean, try it if you want... some people are able to WILD any time they want, but it's kind of rare.

Tonight, I will try to do WILD at WBTB time and see what happens.

By the way I had lucid dreams before by DILD.

      Yeah, this.

As much as I hate generalizing about dreaming--you NEVER want to attempt WILD when you first go to bed at night, especially if you're not an accomplished WILDer. You will pretty much always fall asleep. I have had one WILD in my life which happened when I first went to bed, and it was an accident/fluke. I felt absolutely horrible afterwards, like I hadn't slept. Fortunately I had the rest of the night to sleep normally.

WILD is sort of advanced so it does take a lot of patience and practice. You have to figure out when the best time for WBTB is for your body. You have to learn to recognize your own body's cues while it is falling asleep. And you have to really be aware of what the shifts in consciousness feel like so you can recognize them or induce them with or without SP.

There is a myth that WILDs tend to be better quality lucids. While this can be the case it's not always true. DILDs have just as much potential for length, control, and quality. If you have had success with DILD, I really recommend sticking with that for now. Or at the least, sticking with DILD and trying to learn WILD on the side.
