My birthday is in april and i was considering asking for one from my girlfriend, ive seen alot of video's on how to construct a cheap Lucid dream mask, do they work as well? and even before that how well does the mask work anyway?

I wouldn't strongly recommend dream masks such as the NovaDreamer, as they aren't necessarily a free-for-all LD inducer. They come with a catch.

How a dream mask works is it flashes a bright light into your eyes while you're sleeping, which is grafted by your brain directly into your dream. You have to be good at awareness and catching this light in the middle of a non-lucid dream, in order to become lucid.

The issue with these masks is that your dreams can camoflauge the flash of light; for instance, it can put the light into your dream in the form of a police car with flashing sirens.

However, it might be a good investment depending on the person.

EDIT: I might add that if you really want a mask, you should work on doing RCs related to light and flashy objects. Whenever someone flashes a flashlight, or turns a light on, do an RC and ask yourself if you're dreaming.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Stephen laberge, right? I have that book too, but I haven't read it in a while. Anyways, about the dream masks, the prices vary. I saw one on ebay that went for $90, but from what some people say, that might be a bit cheap. I can't really give a precise estimation as to what one would cost.
