      Helping other lucid dreamers

I had this idea. I don't know if it's doable because I don't know much about computers.

The idea is, people could sleep at night with a webcam pointing at their face or eye. People online could watch them sleeping and spot when they go into REM and send some kind of signal - maybe they'd just talk or call their phone or something.

If it could work through Dreamviews you could have people agreeing to do a "shift" - they'd watch others for an hour or so and signal when they go into REM sleep.

Be a lot cheaper than a NovaDreamer.
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

It's a brilliant idea but the web cam would have to be a nightcam to be able to 'see' into the darkeness and I think those don't come cheap. And also about the time zone issue unless the other guy dosen't work during the day so he can watch for your REM when you sleep.... BUT that also means your lucid dreaming relies on relationship with another person...I don't quite like to rely on that idea though. But other than that it's doable....I live in singapore so I doubt I'd have the opportunity to use that.... There's such a thing as remote asistance software where another person from the internet can 'control your computer like click certain things and activate them I think...go check it out.

Very good idea. But it has quite a few limitations. First, timezone difference would mean that you would be hard-pushed to find someone on DV who is willing to do that. Second, in the modern society, most people do not have enough time, neither the patience to endure constantly looking at a persons face. If we want to detect REM sleep, the other guys would have to be alert and conscious the WHOLE time, and I bet that's not easy. Third, even if you could sleep with the lights on so that the other person can look at your face, you would unconsciously twist, turn or roll in bed after a while, which can hide your eyes and make it inconvenient. Lastly, it would be quite challenging to send a signal to someone during their REM sleep that doesn't wake them up and can reach through their dreams.
Thats my conclusion regarding your theory. The best way would be to ask someone who sleeps with you to give you some sort of signal when they see REM. But that would also be problematic because I doubt someone other than a super-devoted person could endure such a task and not fall asleep himself/herself. OR you could use a software that analyses your image from the webcam and detects REM. But then how is it supposed to signal you? A sound would barely be effective.
Believe me, those professional devices were made with all this in mind. There is a reason why they are expensive, which is because the put serious hard-work and technology into it.
Sorry man, but that is just unfeasible a these days.
'The petals dance through the wind,
The crimson blood shimmers on the snow,
The shattered heart weeps of hidden sorrow.
And over a pure white sky,
      rises a black moon.'

It's not that hard I think I'm not an expert in electronics but I think they do sell interface kits at like radioshack to activate appliances. Maybe a light or an alarm or something. If I did not have my job then I may volunteer to test it out though....too bad this post wasn't posted before I got a job...
