      LDing at the WRONG time?

I always seem to dream in the morning, when I'm usually being woke up. Is there a way to make myself dream earlier in the night? Without doing a WILD or something. In other words, I just want to dream more during the night, instead of in the morning.

Acutally, you proboably do dream earlier in the night, but you don't remember it because you wake up closer to that dream than the ones in the middle of the night. To prevent that keep working on your recall- but I'm not an expert..

Chances are you do dream earlier in the night and simply forget. Having said that though, your REM stages elongate as the night progresses. Try waking up at several intervals during the night and quickly write down your dreams while they're fresh and then go back to bed. I'm sure there's an article here somewhere on REM cycles.

      Edit:

Thanks guys, that was what I needed. I'll try to wake up randomly in the night, because I know whenever I do wake up by accident I usually dream.

If recalling your dreams from earlier in the night really matters to you, then yes, waking up in the middle of the night will make your brain more aware, allowing you to recall those early-sleep dreams.

Check out this diagram. It shows a typical sleep pattern, complete with the various stages of sleep, including REM, which is typically where you'll find yourself dreaming. For ease of understanding and for the sake of planning your dreaming experiences, equate REM sleep to dream-time.

As you can see, most of your dreaming occurs during the later half of your 8-hour sleep pattern, which means you would have to sleep earlier to dream more during the night, but to recall dreams earlier in your sleep pattern regardless of whether you sleep early, late, during the night or during the day, waking up in the middle of the night will help. Be aware that this comes at the expense of your restful sleep, though, which is why not all induction methods are suitable for everyone's schedule. If you're still in high school or have a steady job, you might want to stick with recalling your morning dreams and making the most of them, foregoing waking yourself during the night. Weigh your options.

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.

Thank you very much! This information was also very helpful! I might wake myself up some to get my earlier dreams during the summer while I have no sleeping schedule, thanks again to all of you!

While you're on vacation, my top advice to give you is to sleep in much later than you usually would (shoot for ten hours of sleep!) and learn to use the DEILD method to chain your dreams together, ensuring you make the most of your experience. With that, I wish you luck!

Okay I'll try that, I've been getting 10+ hours of sleep anyways, maybe I could make something else of them. xP

set some alarms. i use my phone and set the first one for 2:40, then i change it to about an hour after that. normally i'll wake up naturally before some of them because i get used to waking up a few times.
and if you're already getting to bed at a reasonable time, recording non-lucid dreams earlier on in the morning can help - remembering one normally precedes a lucid for me.

WILD attempts are most effective when you try them after doing a WBTB 4.5-7 hours into your sleep pattern - look at the linked diagram in my earlier post to see why. Look how many REM phases you have after 4.5 hours of sleep!

Thanks, I think I might try to set something to wake me up about that far in. I tried WILDing last night but I couldn't go to sleep. Then I woke up the next morning. :l

Keep at it, WILDing takes serious effort!

well you're only going to dream during your rem period. If you teach yourself to wake up earlier in the night during a rem cycle you should be able to recall that dream.

Close, but not entirely accurate. Non-REM dreaming is possible, though for the most part the only ones we recall are REM dreams. Still, you're right.

      You're welcome Mascot, good luck.
