Lightbulb Well, I took one step, but need to take a few more. Any advice?

Well I've had 2 lucid dream experiences a few months or a year ago. They were accidental and I woke up almost immediately from the excitement.

So I've been looking on how to induce the LD, but never tried it, but last night, I thought I'd give it a shot.

I downloaded "Subliminal Lucid 3.0" that someone posted up here, and listened to that on my iPod until I fell asleep.

While listening I did the relaxation technique, starting at my head, down to my toes. Then I repeated in my head "1...I am dreaming, 2...I am dreaming, 3...I am dreaming...and so on, until I eventually drifted off"

I guess the point of that was to keep my body still, so my body falls asleep while my mind is awake.

But unfortunately for me, I didn't attain lucidity during my dreams. But as a matter of fact, I had 3 dreams, which were extremely clear, and easily rememberable. I took my notepad and wrote down each dream to my best memory.

Now I can never remember my dreams. Maybe once every few months I'll have a terrifying nightmare or something that I remember, but never good dreams.

So I think I'm taking a step in the right direction. Now the only thing I need to do it become aware I'm dreaming--while dreaming. Obviously this is much harder than remembering a dream, so does anyone have any tips on how to get past that first big step?

Have you checked the newbies forum ? You'll have a great start there.
As simple tips, whe suggest for people to start wroking on recall - as you did with your notepad. The better your recall, the bigger chances you have: It's your priority.
Then, check out the tutorials section, there you can find a lot of techniques. I would say to you first stick with recall, then go for the DILD technique (this technique focus on the dreaming knowing thats he/she is dreaming inside the dream).
It may take sometime, but with effort, you will sure success.

I've used the subliminal lucid 3.0 one time, it didn't worked (I didn't had my first lucid by then).
