PSI energy in martial arts media

I've recently seen a couple of martial arts movies and shows. I've also noticed a lot of PSI use in these films. Extreme energies used in amazing ways.

      Movies to Mention

Kungfu Hustle- This movie was full of energy use. People playing musical instruments that would shoot out deadly PSI energy. The main character defeats the badguy with pure a "Buddhist Palm Kungfu" move. He raises his palm and a huge burst of energy is shot. An entire wall is knocked out in the shape of his palm.

Shaolin Soccer- The bad guys absorb massive amounts of chi energy into their legs, and rip a kick.

Mortal Kombat- The ice guy, Can't remember his name, but a guy is running to attack him, and he cups his hands and makes a psi ball of freezing energy, and shoots it at him and he freezes.

Later on when he is fighting he creates a psi shield around himself of freezing energy. The guy who he is fighting is unable to penetrate his field. He keeps absorbing more energy and extending his bubble of energy.

Star Wars- Full of energy use. The force is just like psi. Jedis have learned to manipulate it with their mind.

      Video Games:

Martial Arts video games, are full of energy use. People shooting psi balls at one another or doing other energy tricks. Nes in SuperSmashBros shoots psi energy from his head. Lets see... Lots of anime type video games, and computer role playing games, give the main characters energy attacks. They create a giant ring of fire and explode, stuff like that.

Anime TV is full of energy use. Many characters have energy rings, or in shows like dragon ball z characters can fly by using some kind of cloud energy field beneath their feet. Anyone who has seen any anime martial arts is aware of this.

I just think its interesting how common this is. Its obviously found in many different areas of media. For me this opens up two possibilities

      1. It just reaffirms our obsession and fantasy of this amazing yet impossible feat.

      2. We have a knowledge of it because it once it did exist, when great masters walked this planet.

Heres the idea. Some myths aren't actually just fantasies or fables, but have been created from truth. Unfortunately a lot of these amazing truths no longer exist. Like the magic carpet. Egyptian fable or the an amazing feat which was capable years ago. There are other myths of this nature. We often hear about the ability to heal. This is common in films and literature. If anyone has anymore films to mention, or ideas on this topic, I'd really like to hear about it.

I don't know too many movies with that... but since its from movies and video games, it MUST be true.

I'm not saying it has two be true, read my post, I offer two options. Just thinking about possibilities.

If these myths based on "truth" existed a long time ago, what happenned? Did we as humans just forget it? I doubt that these powers ever existed except in folklore and literature.

I don't know much about this, but what I think is...

Maybe what some may call inspiration is actually memories of an anterior life.

So basically one could remember something he lived in his anterior life and think he imagined it. Could that be possible?

Sorry if my english is bad, my vocabulary is very limited.

Ok another similar idea for an example. The dragon is a figure that developed in different regions of the world simultaneously without contact. The european dragon is very phsically different from the chinesed dragon. Now we say it is only myth but then how did two regions of the world create such an odd archetypal creature

You can focus your energy into your hands for example. I haven't tested this (well duh!) on somebody, but I'm pretty sure that if you can focus your energy into your hands and hit somebody as you shoot it out, it will damage them severely.

I'll help you test it...we can exchange data.

You can hit me with a "Psi" punch then I'll punch you with a loaded fist of rolled quarters. Then we'll compare results.

Hehe, yeah. But the thing is to mix psi with muscle power.

Exactly. That is common technique in advanced martial arts practice. Mind over matter. You have to see yourself breaking twelve bricks with your hand before you actually do it. To actually break twelve bricks, you must not only focus your complete physical but also mental and psi energy as well.

I practice this, it's called Tai chi. If im on the right track. Every country has a different name for the energy. I broke cement blocks with it.

okay, if you say before, we used all those psi shooting techniques and now it's all turned into myths and imagination, then you're also saying ghosts exist too, like those ghost movies could have happened before, but now it's in our imagination like psi powers. also goes for gods and godesses like Zeus. Aliens as well, and so many other thigns that we imagine and hear myths about.

Mortal Kombat- The ice guy, Can't remember his name, but a guy is running to attack him, and he cups his hands and makes a psi ball of freezing energy, and shoots it at him and he freezes [/b]
      He is called "Sub-zero"

Well, as I mention in my info, I have been researching and practising Psi. I am 99% sure that phenomena -the so called PSI- do exist even though I dont believe Psi's existence, I just call them likely.I mean these effects can happen but it doesnt mean that it's psi that causes them.Psi is pinpointed only to explain them. Not to mention that in movies -of course- they exaggerate. It's impossible to freeze a human or something in a milisecond!
However, to some extend they have tooo little dose of truth.

P/S I have only practiced some of these phenomena NOT all!

I wonder if humans would be able to control energy coming out of their hands. If someone figured this out they could have killed themselves with it.

It's like the saying "If you believe anything is possible." When you set your mind to believe the belief becomes reality.

I dont think so. ok now I convince my mind that I can read minds! Yes I am sure I can do it! ...but it doesnt happen

~However, the topic is about PSI in martial Arts. So there some saolin monks that meditate all the day may have some extra abilities.
I had also heard (1 year ago) that there was someone that had not eaten for 5 years (i think) and he was stil alive! Also doctors had him examined and they said that in fact he had not eaten! Personally, I dont believe that.

very interesting topic. here's my personal experience:
i've been practicing martial arts for the last 3 years (kendo and a little bit of aikido. if you don't know what kendo is, go to http://www.kenwakai.org), and in that time i've met some really amazing people!!! like this japanese guy, an aikido sensei (5th dan) which was able to hold a staff of wood with his palm open!! that doesn't seems like a really amazing thing, but there were 2 guys in one extreme of the staff pushing it down and the staff never moved an inch out of its original position!
and, there of course, the "normal" situation in every single shiai (shiai=combat) or ji-geiko(ji-geiko=free practice) where the 2 fellows are just expeling lots of energy through their chakras (specially from their hara, which is located just bellow your navel)
man, it's really amazing what a well-trained martial arts expert can do with it's own body. call it psi, call it chi, call it the way you want it... but it's there
      and that's my humble opinion
I was looking for answers...and I didn't know the questions....
LD's: 1.25 so far (yeah, .25....i just can't take the second one as a full LD)

Yea...ok it doesnt sound so amazing but I didnt witness it so you have the first speech.
I am not a believer of chakras and of course it doesnt mean that people who do martial arts are people who use PSI. I guess they may dont even know what PSI is.

Anyway those who have "dans" can do amazing things without the involvement of PSI.

Just because you see something on the television doesn’t mean that it was true, the human mind has always been capable of making up amazing stories of people or things that don’t exist (take dinosaurs for example) people have and always will want more than what has been given to them, to take martial artists that have trained their muscles and their techniques for their entire lives and use them as examples of "PSI" powers is ignorant, just because we cant explain something with science yet doesn’t mean that you should just slap a supernatural explanation on it and never look back.

(jk about the dinosaur thing )

When you try to relax, you can imagine tension flowing out of your body. I think that Ki (PSI) energy is similar. Ki is a visualization tool to help your mind strengthen your muscles in much the same way as liquid tension is a visualization tool to help your mind relax them. You can feel this Ki and manipulate it. I think that a tool such as Ki is necessary because your brain prevents you from using your maximum strength (certain mental illnesses can cause people to seem incredibly powerful, requiring about six or so people to keep them down).
So really, I suspect that Ki is more closely related to hypnosis and suggestion than to flapdoodle such as biomagnetism or whatever

The most reputable Discipline for the acquiring of the Chi Energy, out of all of those East Asian Traditions is Tai Chi -- reputable because it is not so intertwined with concommittant violence. I've studied it. Very good breathing exercises, and the discipline of movement can give one a certain dignity in one's gait.

If one should reduce it down to its most important element, it would be to breath deeply from all the way down to about an inch below and back from the navel. I know that the lungs do not go that far down, but it is possible to work the diaphram muscles from that far down thus maximizing the depth of one's breathing. I've even read some old treatises that advise that one should breath from the very bottoms of one's feet -- using the same kind of muscle contraction as for breathing to sort of suck the 'air' up from all the way down. What that does is open up the Energy Channels.

Now, consciously taking over the breathing functions can be dangerous, because you can mess up the job, once you take it off "automatic". Hint: breath as fast as you like. But getting into breath retention can kick up your Carbon Dioxide levels to dangerous levels. Getting light headed and wobbly may feel real neat -- seeing lights and feeling high as a kite -- but you can also pass out and break your head or smash your teeth out, along with whatever brain damage made you pass out in the first place.

Although deep rapid breathing will not make you feel all screwed up like you've been sniffing glue, it can be very energizing -- opening and cleaning out the energy channels.
