.....no, the greek gods got their powers from someone saying 'i wonder why it thunders...o wait, lets make a god of thunder...i'll call him zeus' and merlin....he is a fictional character. also, how could anyone even attempt to answer the question 'is it possible to gain god-like abilities'? i really think that if someone would figure it out, they would be far to busy taking over the world to share their secret on some website.

anyway no this wouldn’t work, the hallucinations are just that... hallucinations. they are all in your mind, nothing more, its just that your extremely powerful mind puts dream characters in real life, also I don’t think that it even goes past when your still in SP, now unless you want to hallucinate a world dominated by you (which is impossible in itself) no this could never work,
also, do you even understand what developing your "dream powers" means? its simply coming to a deeper realization that its just a dream, life isn’t a dream and there’s no way to "develop powers" because there’s no powers to develop.

Guess your right, I was just in a creative state of mind when I wrote that. But it would be interesting to study.

When I said train the hallucinations, I meant so that they would come out in real life, just like how they came out of the dream.

Probably You're right, Zeus might be just a personification for the Thunder and Lightning - but it's just a way of explaining these unexplainable (at those times) events so all the peasants and craftsmen could have understood it. Then again - as I've noticed from some of Your previous posts, you're a christian - have You seen Your god? Why do You think that he might not be just a personification and an attemp to explain the unexplainable? Sounds to me more like \"ancient Roman and Greek gods were nothing more than acts of nature but mine is The One and Only Way\".

As for picking up the bible - I sure hope You're just kidding. I don't like people who force their opinion to others and suffocate any option of free Choice.

Supposing that gods exist : Some have gained god-like abilities - that's how they became gods. And some of them have taken over the World - it's called religion.

I never said Merlin was actually real, and all of those kinds of gods (zeus, poseiden, etc...) were real, but it's just something my mind dwells over every once in a while.

technically no, i havn't seen my God. but i've had enough experiences to make up for it.

Hallucinations, imagination - things that "don't exist",because you can't show them to others, really exist. As I see things, nothing comes from nowhere. Everything has to come from somewhere. If You're thinking, for example, about a blue-striped cactus, then in some twisted part of the universe, it exists - because the thought has to be based on something.

This brings us actually to the "If-a-tree-falls-in-a-forest-and-nobody-is-around-to-hear-it-fall, does-it-make-a-sound"-reverse. If I hear a sound, has a tree fallen? Yes, because sounds don't come from nowhere. Same with visual images. Fitting this saying into context, if a person sees a "non-existent" thing, a hallucination for example, it exists - because can he see a non-existent thing?

Didn't make much sense though - I'm not as able to express myself in english than in my native language.

please dude. if someone sees like a pink or purple cat in a dream thats not cuz its real somewhere. its cuz his mind mixed what is real with an outcome that is not. such as the real colors and a real cat. so what you said makes no sense.

and other people whos mind spazz out on them at the idea "woah does a tree make a noise" shit, they are too dumb to realize its all pysical including the sound waves which are produced no matter who is near to perceive them. that would be like wodering if a star exploding in outer space is gonna make a sound. "well if i didnt hear it...."

Indeed. Sound Waves. The tree produces sound waves, but it's the the ear which catches these sound waves and converts them into sound we hear. So it doesn't make a sound when no-one's there to hear.
Ah, that wasn't what I was trying to explain. I was talking about the reverse of this thing. When a tree falls, and someone happens to be near it, the someone hears the sound. The reverse would be - when someone is near a tree and hears a sound, then the tree must have fallen. (not counting the possibility of someone playing a tape-recorder with the falling-tree sound).

But let us leave this off-topic conversation. I posted a link in my previous post which guides us to an appropriate thread for this kind of talk.

No, Merlin was just a magician like any other magician today. Think David Copperfield. How would you react if you didn't know it was a trick. What David Copperfield does is incredible and amazing. But you know it's a trick, therefor you know you are safe. But what if you didn't know it was a trick? That's how Merlin got his powers.

And Merlin wasn't a fictional character. Of course nobody knows, but historians believe that he existed.

Seriously, try to answer the question above.

As for Psychedelic, I hoped for a second he might be a phenomenalist(someone who believes all that exists exists within the mind), as that is an interesting and perfectly valid philosophy and would be nice for a debate, but now it appears he is simply a Naive Realist(believes that senses directly present outside reality). To make an objection to this from a materialist perspective, yes hallucinations are real, but the action percieved isn't objectively occuring, it only appears so due to freak brain activity.
