      Jerking awake theory- any opinions?

I've had only 2 obe's,both several years ago, and nothing since, though I've been trying steadily with no luck. My first obe was listening to b.beats, I dozed off , and when I awoke I could see my tv through closed eyelids, and another time listening to BB,I just woke up while rising above my body. Both times I panicked and that was it. I always thought my first obe would be a continous process, SP, vibrations, then out. It was too freaky just waking up oob for the first time. Anyway, while practising I have this common problem, while trying to stay awake, waiting for SP and the vibrations, I suddenly ,while in kind deep meditation, suddenly gasp and my body jerks and I'm back to the beginning again and frustrated. Could I have other members opinion on my theory? I always assumed that I was still awake when I gasp and jerk, but thinking it over, do you think maybe I fell asleep, my astral body went out for whatever, and when it returned ,that was the jerking etc , from the two bodies realigning themselves? I could swear it didn't feel that I fell asleep, but thinking it over ,maybe I'm wrong? I've read other articles on jerking awake , but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. Any advise or remedies for this problem?

Hello, this is not a problem at all, these jerks are hypnagogic feelings and your body is trying to jerk out of it. You feel like you are falling somewhere, and your body is trying to get out. It is little bit different for everybody, in my case I feel like I am falling into my bed, sometimes I feel like I spin in any direction and I try to jerk out. It is a pretty cool feeling, nothing bad in it. I think it is a good thing, you are actually staying lucid while falling asleep and can feel those hypnagogic illusions. You can read more about hypnagogic hallucinations on web.

Regarding your fast wake ups, they are normal too. Every beginner lucid dreamer will usually wake up as soon as he gets lucid or as soon and he feels something new and unusual. Try to expect those feelings next time, try to not panic and you will be fine

That's from my experience, maybe other members will have different opinion on this.

Pretty much what flowofmysoul said, just reaction to HH when falling asleep and called hypnic jerk. Is your sleeping schedule unstable? From my experiences unstable sleeping schedule sometimes might be the case for them. Also, SP is not possible to induce or 'wait for' unless you already experience it regularly, it's a sleeping disorder that only some people experience, and there's alot of misconception about it, check out this thread: http://www.dreamviews.com/wake-initi...mystified.html
