      Weird Experience!

I have been reading about consciocus dreaming and OBE's for some time now and I have been trying to have a lucid dream of my own with no success. Last night something strange happened to me:

I was lying in my bed doing some breathing meditation techniques I had learned earlier in the day. After about an hour of lying there I had given up on the meditation and I just felt really comfortable. Normal thoughts, completely relaxed, then all of a sudden I heard this booming noise (like a vibration of some sort) and high-pitched sound, there was no feeling in my body and I especially note not being able to move my hands. But, I was not paralyzed. I felt myself being lifted off the bed and this incredible jolt like I was moving very fast, feet first. I felt kind of frightened and the feeling went away, I was lying in my bed again and the booming and high-pitched noise quieted a bit. I opened my eyes a little and the room looked normal so I closed them again, took a deep breathe and tried to welcome the feeling of being lifted again, and it happened! This time I lifted off the bed and I imagined myself turning over and over like I was on a skewer and it felt like I was doing so! I was afraid to open my eyes just incase I were to see myself lying on the bed. The experience ended and I sat up. I was definitely not sleeping when this happened. What the hell happened to me? Was this just some super-hypogogic state? It certainly did not feel so, for I felt like I was actually lifting out of my bed and my mind was clear. My eyes were closed during the experience and I was afraid to open them for some reason. Does anyone have a rational explanation? I am still fairly new to all of this.

I get that every now and then. More like once a year. I'm guessing it's triggered by certain meditation techniques and sleeplessness. Where you find yourself waking up every few hours or so, or at least it seems like that. I think serotonin has something to do with that. Eventually it seems as though the brain generates some mixture of neurotransmitters in one shot and you go into fantasy land. I once heard that high frequency pitch and then felt a shot of adrenaline and then felt as though my body was pulled into a dream /fantasy world... it was both vivid and lucid.... it was more like a hallucinagenic drug experience although I've never tried any of that stuff, only read about them.

Every time that happens to me, the experience is slightly different, the place I end up is different as well. It's difficult to repeat this experience though because usually I can't find any definate trigger events or specific conditions. Caffiene before I sleep usually turns something different up everytime I dream rather than normal sleep. But I guess while in a state of slumber, you can direct your attention to the ringing in your head during nights that are silent, and be passively attentative to it rather than focus so hard. As the ringing gets louder do nothing but accept it... if all goes well the ringing will peak hard ..... snap.... your off to where ever it takes you.

Be sure to gather as much info about the experience as possible so we can all benifit from it. If you dont' normally hear a faint ringing in your head when it's completely silent then I can't suggest anything else.
