Been watching this forum and sitting on the fence as to which side to join? Don't be shy, jump on in!
Believers
Should you choose to enter the fray from the believers camp, you have your work cut out for you. It's you against the world, and more often than not, the people on your side are more of a hindrance than a help. Most believers can't agree amongst themselves on the forces in question, other that they agree they exist.
The most important thing you should have is an above average knowledge of any particular subject. The more the merrier. Math, physics, history, It doesn't really matter what. This will lend your arguments credibility, and frustrate your opponents who will be looking for any little inaccuracy to undermine your whole argument .
Almost as important, though not necessary, is first hand experience. By claiming even minor experiences, people will demand compete explanations from you, and scoff when you can't answer.
Your goal is to educate your opponents. They will be stubborn and not research anything themselves, so you will need to do it for them and lay it out carefully and clearly. This where having some expertise will help you, as it saves time if you can pull your facts from memory.
But be precise. Anything you say can and will be used against you, from minor innacuracies to spelling mistakes.
Skeptics
Your job as a skeptic is much easier. These topics are rife with so many absurdities and nonsense, the only hard part is figuring out to begin!
The most basic and effective form of skepticism is just stating your opinion that you personally don't believe in such things. Don't underestimate this little gem. That constant barrage of simple opposition can discourage or enrage your opposition. And it almost always slows down an active thread.
After that, just pick out whatever catches your eye, and hold it up to the light of basic scientific principles. It's really kind of like shooting fish in a barrel, sadistic, but fun.
Should any good points be made against you, simply attack and dismiss any sources of information they are using against you. This can be done with very little effort, but some well researched facts can really add insult to injury.
