Is it possible to wake from a REM state and still be in?

Ok so we were chatting in the room earlier and someone said that people aren't suppose to have 8 different REM's a night? Well what's odd is I've remembered that many before. Here's usually what happen I'll wake up at night a lot of different times. I'll some times go to the bathroom and sometimes go back to sleep. I dream almost each time and can remember the dream.

The question is it possible to wake up in the middle of a REM state and then go back to sleep?

Yeah it's possible to wake up in the middle of an REM state. I don't know if you will slip back into it immediately upon going to sleep, but I would imagine it would be rapid than if you had awoken after an REM period of sleep.

What would happen if you stayed in a REM state while awake? Is that possible?

Nothing much, you eventually snap out of it. But you can have some hallucinations for a minute or two. This happens to me a lot actually. I'll wake up and use the restroom and see flashing lights, sometimes something move in the corner of my eyes.

I also wouldn't cast aside the possibility of false awakenings.
And...not much Beyond Dreaming in this, it seems.

so it's hallucinations? You sound like you are experiencing something similar to me and it's always during a half-conscious state right during waking up. I've been trying to explore how deep I can go with it and had something very strange happen. I felt instead of just seeing. I tried not to be afraid of it this time and see what I can cause to happen out of it.

Here's what happen to me yesterday. During the half-conscious state I started to see a cat on my window seal licking itself. I moved my head just a little bit and the cat disappeared. I stayed still and the cat was there licking itself again. This is why I say I had movement because I could move my body and everything.

The other strange thing is I heard noises off in the distance that weren't normally there. It wasn't a buzzing sound, but more just noises that seemed to be amplfied by the state I was in. I did decide to play with this state and just see what happen. The noises normally do not happen when I am in this state.

The other thing is I felt weight on my arm of something crawling like a cat or walking on my arm. I have never felt weight of anything during these states of being either. I could feel the force of each movement. It was also then that I noticed a second arm above mine.

At this point my first thought was ok maybe astral projection is about to happen or a wild. Keep in mind I am not a expert on astral projection or anything on that part. I started to focus on that area of my body telling myself to leave the body.

At this moment everything went black. I could see nothing and felt nothing. Then a red light started to happen and as I followed it. Images started to appear, but not take up the whole background. Everything was still black just buildings and places were moving by me quickly.

I was wondering about the REM being related to it because it felt like a dream state in a way yet I was fully awake and aware of what was happening. I wasn't afraid and choice to explore more. I'm hoping if it happens again I can keep exploring deeper. I do not know why it happen or what happen.
