I don't claim to know how the universe works, but if there are higher beings, or even just profoundly other beings out there that come to us in our dreams, the relationships they make with us would depend us much on what they are looking for as it would what we seem to need.
Maybe you should try to find out who made the mural, and what their inspiration was. Or, if you think you can, go lucid and try to find them again, and ask them who they are. They might just tell you.
I've had a recurring dream character for my entire adult life, although she seems to be rather different from the ones you describe, but she and I have "travelled the universe" together, depending on what you believe about those sorts of things.
If you believe in shared dreaming, then maybe the people you saw were other people, projecting into your consciousness they way they would like themselves to appear, or perhaps just the way your subconscious can best characterize them.
Did these figures appear to be male, or female? One of each? Or, did that sort of thing seem ambiguous or irrlevant?
I do think that whatever the source, be it God, other people, or our own minds, there is something that wants to teach us how to navigate the world described by our dreams, and we all have warriors inside of us.
