I am learning to have a little control in my dreams...I think of it more as self control, since my own actions and responses are all I have tried to dictate. I haven't really tried or have a whole lot of desire to totally manipulate the dream to my liking. I almost feel like I would or could miss out on something if I didn't take the course that was set before me. What do you think of it? Is there a benefit to manipulating the dreamscape or to allowing the dreamscape to take it's own shape?
I will come at this from my perspective and from my understanding of the Toltec and Lakhota traditions that I follow.
As I've said in other posts, the Dreamtime is sort of an inbetween place between the Spirit World and the Tonal World. When we dream, we enter a state that is in a higher vibrational state than we normally experience during waking hours. This makes it easier for us to communicate with Spirit and easier for Spirit to communicate with us.
During this state, our inhibitions and Tonal baggage that we carry around with us from day-to-day is lessened or discarded entirely and we can interact with our Spirit Guides fully and without self-imposed restriction.
Our Spirit Guides are with us all the time and we can access and interact with them whenever we want. We do this through prayer, meditation, or ceremony. But becasue the Dreamtime is a heightened state of being, we can interact with other aspects of Spirit that normally we would not have access to.
In this state we can interact with those who have crossed over - if they're willling - we can interact with past and even future incarnations of ourselves, and we can interact with all the forms that Spirit takes in the Nagual.
When you master LD, you can consciously seek out whatever Guide or Spiritual entity you choose. They may not answer, but you can always call out for them.
What I reccommended earlier was that, rather than trying to control every aspect of your dream, you simply sought out your primary Guide and let them tell you what needs to be done. After a while, your Guide will begin to introduce you to other helpers and allies in the Spirit World. Or, to put it in Christian terms, will bring other Angels to you for teaching.
When this happens, you are absolutely right not to try to control the dream, but simply to BE in the dream and receive the knowledge that they give you.
Lastly, even in the Spirit World the law of reciprocity holds. Anytime something is taken, something must be given. So every time your Guide or an Ally provides you with Knowledge, you must offer something in return. Usually, they will be quite forthcoming with what they want you to do or provide. Whatever it is, DO IT. Don't question, don't argue, be all "Nike" about it and "Just Do It!"
They will never ask you to do something that you can't or shouldn't. They always have your best interest in mind and will always support you to the extent that you need aid. It may not always be easy and it may not always be fun, but if you are impeccable in your actions and continue to live congruently, you - and everyone around you - will reap the benefits.
Remember also that you will get what you pray for. So be careful what you pray for. If you pray for stength, your strength will be tested. If you pray for understanding, you will get problems to solve.
I once prayed for Humility and Patience... BIG mistake. Two weeks later I was out of a job and unemployed for over nine months. Did I learn Humility? Yep. Did I learn patience? You betcha... "Ok... I GOT IT!" Trust me, I've learned to pray for Mercy, Grace and Compassion.
So, back to your original question... Sorry I deviated again... No, you don't need nor should you try to control every aspect of your dream. Simply seek out your Guide and let them take it from there.
