I suppose its possible to get results with books. I however never got any books on the subject until after I had already learned it and could do it. After you read the book though, if you still have questions the book wont answer, you wont get an answer. If you need guidance, the book wont give it to you.

It really doesnt matter where you learn from. You can learn from an article you read, a person, a book, whatever. I learned by practicing and sometimes got one or two tips from people who were more experienced than me. Thats all. The book method isnt better than the other method, and the other method isnt better than the book method.

Tricky: Do you have to zone out or meditate first, or can you just start out by sitting down and concentrating?

I'm very good at reading people's emotions. It's just natural though. I can just tell what people are thinking through how there eyes look. I know that sounds weird though.... But that PK stuff sounds cool.

Tsiyeria: I usually meditate first. But no, I dont need to. I just do it because in the long run people who meditate advance quicker. But no I dont have to meditate first.

Think of it like this. Before you practice a sport, you usually warm up and stretch first. But it doesnt mean if you dont warm up and stretch you cant do it. Just people who warm up and stretch first advance quicker.

That's why you research the books and make sure you glance through the ones that have the section in the back where it tells about continuing the training. It will tell you about what books to look into for different things and what not. But whatever, who really cares that I'm typing this eh? So I'm shutting up now.
