      Ghost that haunts my dreams.

I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience. When I was a child I would often wake up, pinned to my bed, while a dark shadow pushed me into the matress and tried to smother me. I would pray for help, and a voice would tell me that I was OK and everything would go back to normal. The shadow was so evil; I could just feel it's hate for me. It happened countless times in the same house.

It stopped when I moved to a new house. It has never happened again. What was that thing? Or was it just a phase that I outgrew? Something in my young developing mind.

Perhaps it was a form of sleep paralysis? Look up the "old hag" if you don't know what I mean. Curiosity speaking, but do you remember if you were lying on your back when you woke up?

I am thinking the same thing. Its possible that its just SP, but, the smothering part is what seems off

Sleep paralysis is subjective though, isn't it?

Well, it seems that there are a set of symptoms that people can get with SP, but, yes, I would say its somewhat subjective

It kinda felt as if I were rocked back and forth while sinking into the bed. Hard to explain. Kind of like sinking into mud or quick sand. There was a noise too. Same noise every time. Kinda like a woosh sound, but way stranger. Very out of this world. I hear it clearly, but no way to explain it. It was pretty awful. I should probally just try to forget it forever, but I really want to know what it was.

Yeah, I looked up the old hag. That is probally it. But it was on my chest and not the back. I guess that answers it for me. Thanks.

Sounds like SP, and the old hag can take many forms.

The most rational explanation is a desperate rationalization. WHen faced with something unknown and frightening, the mind desperately tries to make sense of the situation to make it more bearable. My first SP I thought it was aliens coming for me. Some females I know thought they had been drugged and someone was coming to rape them.

I think something pinning you down is just a desperate creation of the mind to explain your inability to move.

      But you never know...

You never know. Have you had any other occurances while you were awake? Like a very strange feeling?

Just to add, the "inability" to breathe is one of many hallucinations in sleep paralysis. If it was a ghostie, you might want to warn the others. You can enter SP in any position but the back is most common. You can also learn to WILD if it happens again.

Found my poll on some hallucinations if you are interested

Whoa. Cusp remember you made a thread about fighting these and when someone prays it helps break it?

I had a similar experience. I also believe in sleep paralysis but I know that my experience was a different one from this. The dark spirit attacked me and I had a big bump on my head as physical evidence.

I also like to find the psychological explanation myself, but my own experience tells me that sometimes, in very rare situations this is not the case.
